If God exists, how would you worship him?

Well no. Because you're allowing god to have human weaknesses and frailties. The whole point of the abrahamic god is that he's perfect in his divinity. Omniscient. Wise. Its irrational to apply to that god the vanity and fragile self-esteem befitting a cloud-dwelling Kanye West.
Nailed it

If the God of the Bible existed then, presumably, you'd be within the internal logic of Christianity. You'd have good reasons to worship him/her, that wouldn't reduce down to self interest/hell avoidance. It would also be about embracing the divine, acceptance and lots of other things that come with the tradition. Though of course you wouldn't have to do it, that's the free will bit. Very different from the Kanye West, thunderbolt, god as vengeful child version.
The motivation here seems to be that god is bloody brilliant and has given us life, nature etc. Even if we bypass all the shit stuff this god has also inflicted on us, including on innocents... I'm still left with a gap between intense gratitude, and worship.

As an atheist, the closest I have to this is my mum (unselfish creator) and humanity (capable of such good). And similarly I'll bypass my mum being a massive snob, and humans rare but terrible cuntishness. I have enormous love and gratitude... but I don't feel the need to mumble in cold buildings every seven days in honour of humanity, or make up and sing songs about my mum having magical powers.

But don't you go putting it out for another deity:

(For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth. -- Deuteronomy 6:15 KJV

hope he doesn't find out about that one night stand with zoroaster, or the history of Islam podcast I listened to last night.

I think the polytheists are more on the money. Gods are just humans, writ large. There have been attempts, especially among latter-day Abrahamic theologians, to try and dress deities up as some kind of cosmic abstraction. But Jehovah as described in the Old Testament bears little relation to how God is described in academic texts written by pointy-headed clerics. Jehovah is a jealous and moody deity.

The Gods of the theologians also bear little resemblance to the Gods that the average believer prays to.

Whenever I pick up the bible, I tend to conceive of 'God' as being a psychological drive of some sort. The line "God is Love" in the first letter of John seems to sum it up. After all, love can give you meaning, ease your suffering, and save you from the depths of hell. It can also lead to wrath, jealousy, possessiveness, and murderous rage. Seems a workable metaphor in most cases.

Having said that, I'm not sure why love would order people to not eat shrimp or wear mixed fabric. I guess all metaphors have their shortcomings.

God created man in his own image. Kanye West.

Nah. The god I grew up with (the one who sent Abraham up that mountain to kill his only son but then said it's ok mate I was only testing you) was very insecure, wrathful and jealous and capricious as fuck.

and mine has this:
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

Matthew 5:17 KJV

The Lord...visits the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.
Can't say fairer than that.

this is literally stated as well. Your god is a jealous god*, thou shalt have no other gods before me etc

I'm pretty sure vodoun and candomble are on his shitlist. As well as me the unbeliever

*(For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.

Duetronomy 6:15

There was a lot of competition back then to be fair, was a crowded market and old Jaweh had a job on his hands to get everyone to rally round give up the fertility deities and just throw in their lot with him, the war one.

this is very good news, at it is a direct challenge to a global system which put the accumulation of capital at its summit. It will be destroyed from the face of the earth. :)
