how good is that snipping tool!!

Essential for end of project reports and just doing “a picture paints a thousand words” explanations on a single edited screen shot pasted into emails

Sure I read they were talking about force upgrading it to a more bells and whistles version (on Windows this is) that sounded less useful but nothing seems to have come of it, thank God.

fuck never thought i would actually fall in love with a bit of software!

i went from discovery to using it at least 20 times a day for work and pleasure etc.

great piece of shit!

previous version was better

more so if you company thought gmail was a good business tool

I've never used it because I've been super happy with this one

Downloading extra software can't possibly be as handy as pressing Windows key-shift-s and slipping the screen into a document just like that.

What did it do that it doesn't now?

For some reason it's come up a few times at work lately and loads of people didn't know it existed.

damn it my secrets is out

starts filling out CV

used to just copy stuff directly into work emails

now you have to piss about and save it before uploading for best results

It's been around for nearly 20 years, yet I still can't read it without saying sniping tool, which of course is something quite different.

Microsoft are getting rid of it IIRC. Only good thing they've come up with in at least a decade. This after they killed off or hid mspaint and the photo viewer.

why is it so good? The one I use (Screenshot) you bring it up, select the rectangle you want and save that to a document name. Works well enough.

I've got both on my laptops - and looking at the options there is only one difference. Snipping tool lets you add the URL to snips of webpages, whereas Snip & Sketch doesn't. Otherwise they're essentially the same. They've had that 'we're getting rid' message on snipping tool for ages now, so not sure whether it'll ever go.

Paint is still there too.

OK so I gave it a go. I like the interface but it falls far short of Faststone Capture for my needs. I use that app every single day to capture stuff off the screen, resize it to particular dimensions and sometimes edit the image itself.

Here's an old review I wrote

The reason it’s good is because it so simple and part of Windows. A bit like Notepad, there are loads of third-party feature-rich text editors for Windows, but Notepad is just there and is great for doing the basics without the hassle of downloads and updates and tooltips and weird toolbar icons and things you don’t need.

Tbf I do find myself frequently copying into Paint so I can tinker with the image.
