Indeed. Nor should it matter.

But I'm thinking more about the new/future ideas that'd be different as a result of this kind of change.
perhaps i should point out that the ideas of politicians such as hazel blears, margaret thatcher, suella braverman, priti patel, margaret hodge, therese coffey, liz truss and penny mordaunt have all left a considerable amount to be desired. the problem is politicians, not whether they are men or women.

I know, I know, women aren't exempt from poor decision making. No one is. I tend to think that the whole political arena would benefit from more balance in this area, though.

Was it Gulliver's travels where the view that the desire to enter politics should debar one from ever entering politics, was expressed?

I will remember to write a paragraph describing an ejaculating phallus and compare it to the electoral choices presented to me on my ballot paper.
You do that if you want to. I'd rather condemn the Labour and Conservative candidates for supporting the slaughter of unarmed civilians in the Gaza Strip, but I realise that to you it is more important to express your obsession with the human penis.

tbh, there's as a little point in writing a critique of the candidates on your ballot as drawing a spunking cock.

The candidates won't see either, and even if they did, they wouldn't care.

I was in charge of a ward count where the BNP stood and made the point of putting a spunking cock one on one side in order to discuss with the BNP candidate whether or not he thought that one of the spunks which was in his box should be treated as a vote or not.

Well, we do know that the Labour Party will just continue the policies of the present government in most thing, because it has said so.

If you are going to draw a knob, then stay at home, as you are not a serious person.
None of us want to be serious people

They (candidates) at counts are allowed to peruse the spoilt papers with the elections staff and the Returning Officer, then they can all have a nice 'discussion' about it. So they sometimes do get to see the papers with cocks and swears on them :D

But, yes, they don't care unless it can take a vote from an opponent or give them a vote.

What was his response?

It might disconcert the candidates a little. It might not. But it is what I will do, and I think it would be a good thing is people wrote something like this, rather than abstain.

It might disconcert the candidates a little.
Hmm. Don't think it'll make much difference, though.

Isn't spoiling a paper akin to abstaining, though? No vote registered.

Generally their agents.

Your vote is registered as a "spolit ballot" and commentators do sit up and take notice if there are a lot of them. The number of spolt papers are recorded in the official record of the result.

I can see why most regard that as a futile gesture, though, and just don't bother voting at all.

Ah yes, Agents - forgot about them
They just get marked as spoilt and binned afaik
They don't get binned in my experience on local or GE's. It all gets boxed up, sealed and put into storage for years as I understand it.

Yes - that's how it is recorded. I've never worked on one where there were more than 20 -30 ish obviously intentionally spoiled ballots. There are always a few cocked up/unintentionally spoiled papers too, of course.

I think the best one I've seen is where someone has managed to get hold of an image of the ballot paper and has reproduced it with various Superheroes and RoboCop as the candidates. Not the same as a spoiled ballot, but it didn't get counted, obvs :D

It shows that you are not apathetic, that you care about the issues.

Does it?
Do they (care)?
There's no benefit or outcome to it other than, possibly, if enough people do it, a headline or some passing attention from commentators.

I think spoiled ballots still count towards turnout.

If turnout in a GE is below 50% they should run it again but with all previous candidates barred from standing. That might make the useless cunts pitch something worth voting for.
