Arrests are still going on. Every morning this week, the cops have arrived to three to five doors in Jobstown at 7 AM and arrested people. They've arrived in ludicrous numbers to, with between six and ten of them to arrest each local, including a number of schoolkids. They've all been questioned for hours and then released without charge.

Files are being sent to the DPP, so it will be interesting to see if any charges are brought.

At this point he's basically a celebrity, so in amongst the crazy red-scare stuff about how he's unleashing the hordes of terrifying working class animals, he is now apparently also the subject of Heat magazine style coverage about what he was wearing when he went to buy milk. On the plus side, no matter what happens, he should at least have a promising future appearing on that RTE show about media personalities managing Gaelic Football teams.

One of the other Sunday papers has a nearly-full page, slightly less sneery than usual, profile of him. It's genuinely weird the degree to which the media has decided to focus on him. There is currently a protest up at Mountjoy. Very short (no) notice, but a few hundred there.

The demonstration against the 20 plus Tallaght arrests on Saturday has now been turned into a demonstration against repression of water protestors in general and will march to Mountjoy.

10,000 marched to Mountjoy Prison today, which is pretty damn good for a demonstration at two day's notice.

Yesterday, Paul Murphy was on the Late Late Show, a very boring Friday night light entertainment chat show which is nevertheless an Irish institution having been going for fifty years. It's a bit like the old Wogan chat show in Britain, but without the humour. Anyway, the host, Ryan Tubridy, a man paid hundreds of grand a year to engage in the mildest of prattling, decided to do his best pantomime version of Paxman at his most ignorant. The interview was so hostile that even right wingers thought it was weird and inappropriate.

I don't recall Tubridy ever being anything less than forelock-tugging to any Establishment mouth-piece.

It was quite funny to watch him getting all macho and "So when did you stop beating your wife?" though.

IMO Murphy was far too nice to him in return.

Tubridy tried the same thing with Gerry Adams last year and Adams - who seems far past his best these days - put him back in his box by referencing his (Tubridy's) grandfather's own revolutionary past. Shame Murphy didn't take the gloves off and give him some 1913 Dublin Lock-out points of reference... or indeed the long history of civil and not-so-civil disobedience amongst the great unwashed of Ireland. Or even go International on everyone from MLK to Ghandi.
