Help me identify this film

T & P

|-o-| (-o-) |-o-|
I just remembered out of the blue the premise of a film that I guess came out about 15-25 years ago (at least that’s when I heard about it), and thought sounded very a interesting story but never got to see at the end.

AFAIAC it was about a bloke who’d had a pretty disappointing life thus far and decided to end it. But instead of killing himself he takes life insurance, I guess to give money to a relative, and puts a contract on himself so he gets murdered and the insurance pays out.

But then immediately afterwards he has a life changing experience (I guess he meets a girl?) and doesn’t want to die anymore. But when he tries to contact the hitman to cancel the contract he’s unable to.

Any ideas?

Grosse Point Blank?

OK, how about this - a young Indian poet, whose poems have failed to win recognition, goes down by train station and toys with the idea of suicide.

Instead, he gives his coat to a beggar, who is then struck by a train and killed. Unable to identify the corpse, people assume that he is the author of the poems found in the coat, which are then published to great acclaim.

Meanwhile there real author is living on the street in Bombay (I think it was Bombay) completely oblivious to his new stardom.

And no, this wasn't a dream I had.

Recalling his lost love, Vijay strains their marriage while his desire for recognition as a poet is continually thwarted. After he is sacked and considers suicide, he gives his coat to a beggar at a train yard; when an accident kills the beggar and injures Vijay, he is mistakenly pronounced dead, and Gulab succeeds in having his work published.

Well it won't be this as it's from 1916 starring Douglas Fairbanks, but the plot fits, maybe the first film to use it - Flirting With Fate
"In the midst of an emotional depression, a man hires a murderer to kill him. But the despair soon passes, and the man must now escape the killer he's hired to end his life."

Bumping this as my new request is not worth a new thread. I could have dreamt it but I’m sure I’ve heard at some point about a vampire film or TV series in which the premise is that it is set in an area near the Arctic Circle. The kind of place where you get several months of nearly continuous daylight or nighttime depending on the season- which obviously would affect the lifestyle of any vampire quite severely.

Did I imagine it, or does such film/ series exist? Or perhaps it was a book...
