HBO orders Watchmen TV series.

Just finished this. Episodes 1-7 were great. Then the last two episodes were frankly pretty poor. Shame.

I justified, to myself, watching this series via "unofficial streaming services" by promising to buy this series on Blu-Ray when it was available

I have fulfilled my promise and now no longer feel "dirty and dishonest"

Four episodes in and this is so good, and avoids many of the worst sins of current TV series. The pacing is great - I find a lot of series tedious as hell because the plot moves forward at a snails pace while they try clumsily to set up and tie together 20 different story lines or just because they think their cliched shots of heroes gazing into the distance are arty. The dialogue is way above average, a bit too smart sometimes, but it's fine to have some stylisation in a comic book adaptation. What I appreciate most is that the characters are people I enjoy spending time with, even some of the ones who are arseholes. For reasons I cannot fathom a lot of series have decided I want to spend time with arseholes who are not even entertaining, or with worthy dullards. I'm a simple man in wanting some likeable characters in a series, and Watchmen provides plenty.

Just buy some actual Moore merchandise direct from Top Shelf, don't feed these money grabbing bastards.

Lol. Home taping is killing music.

I'm not convinced that intellectual property is a good thing for humanity.

Having worked in IP in the past, I'd say it depends on the industry / product.

I have no problem downloading films, or someone else picking up a Bolex watch or Shanel bag at the market, etc, but I'd like my razor blades, prescriptions and electronics not to be counterfeit, for obvious reasons.

I thought episode 8 was the highlight of the series. Episode 9 not so much, but it's still the most thoroughly impressive and watchable series I've seen for a long time.

Just started this. Took me a while to work out that it's different from the film because its set in a different time.

...also, it's a sequel to the graphic novel and not to the film.
The film is just dreadful. It does have a couple of good moments, but despite (probably to it's detriment) trying to match many of the original panels of the comic book it misses the tone, emotion and even the point of the original. As much as I dislike the idea of a non Moore sequel, the TV series does at least match the tone and pace of the comic far better.

The film is shit, Zach Snyder is a bad storyteller with no sense for pacing or characterisation. I’ve read the comic, though decades after it was a big deal and I’m not that invested in it or in Moore’s work but then I’m not much of a comic person. The series however is probably my favorite superhero media of any type. It’s up there with the best tv series I’ve seen over the last couple of decades.

Two different beasts. I’d say that that whereas one might be judged to be better than the other overall if you want to split hairs, both are similarly enjoyable for different reasons. A bit like comparing Deadpool with Captain America.

Just came across this thread and remembered watching, and enjoying the series back in 2019. Then further remembered ... I've actually got the comic book! Completely forgot - have just dug it out and will re-read. Duh!
