Hardcore Speaker Porn

Kinda reminds me of the first student house party I put on.

We "borrowed" the stage monitor system from the SU venue and used it at the house to do a multi room speaker set up.

Channel One sound system turned up after their regular Friday night we had there and Mikey Dread proceeded to drop sounds using the only record player we had available.

Would have been something like this. :D

Playing through old versions of these.

Yeah. I think there’s 2 Mikey Dreads though. One from Peckham and one from Ja.

It was the Peckham one. Lovely bloke, him and Trevor both.

File under "not fucking around". I'm on to do a Dante course this year, just the basics.
The level 1 & 2 course is well worth doing, and as long as you have a basic working knowledge of both audio and networking not too difficult to get your head around. Level 3 is where it gets complicated, but unless you’re designing huge venue scale systems probably isn’t worth worrying about.

Another rack going in:

This one has a few more amp channels for the front fills, Dante switch, Q-Sys control switch, radio mic receivers/chargers, stage left input box, and house announcement media player.

I was going to ask if D&B had it's own control system or if you used Q Sys. Just finished my Q Sys introduction. Now I need to do the test. 😬
Amp config is done with the D&B R1 software. Q-Sys is going in to give touch panel control of things like audio system power up, as well as house light control and various presets for the LX rig that’s also being installed as I type (everything upgrading from incandescent to LED). It will eventually also control projectors, screens, info displays and so on, but that’s all for phase 2, likely in the summer.

We use Q Sys a lot, mainly VC rooms etc. but have done some bigger rooms with it.

Just finishing a room with 4 Future Automation lifts and Christie Projectors. Using Crestron here though, no audio so off topic!

I wish I knew more about this stuff!

Been working in and around sounds and venues since mid-90s, and in our venue am very jealous of tech team that know their way round the d&b Soundscape Enscene system and the SSL desk. I went into Marketing though, so just keep bugging them for "engaging content" - mainly pictures of the knobs 😂

Very nice. Can I ask what venue? :)
I was going to ask you that too 😂

I work for a new London venue, World Heart Beat Embassy Gardens (snappy name!) in Vauxhall. We only opened in 2023, but already had some good names pass through the venue, and recording studio.

That looks rather lovely.

Lovely room, do you do all FOH from up in the control room or can you come down to earth as well?
We can move, as per event requirements, there’s cat5 patching points for both Dante and DMX everywhere. Most of the balcony underfills are set as mono, apart from the pair directly in front of the ground floor mix position, so the engineer still gets a solid stereo reference.
