He's lived through both world wars!

Bob Weighton in 2019

A 111-year-old former teacher and engineer from Hampshire is set to be confirmed as the world's oldest man.

Bob Weighton, who was born on 29 March 1908, is expected to be named as the new record-holder following the death of a 112-year-old in Japan.

Chitetsu Watanabe died on Sunday just days after being awarded a Guinness World Records certificate.

Mr Weighton, from Alton, said: "I don't really feel satisfied because it means someone else has died."
He previously told the BBC: "I have not lived my life avoiding being run over by buses or getting cancer or anything else.

"I've done nothing to deserve or achieve this age. I'm just one of the lucky ones."

Fuck living that long anyway. Once my grandkids don't need babysitting any more I'm off.

I like how he doesn't try to credit his old age to God or eating pickled onions or having one glass of sherry daily or whatever.

He said the secret to his longevity was "to avoid dying".

Weird how him, the man who shared the title's of Britain's oldest man until his death last year, and Britain's oldest woman were all born on the same day.

Slightly unusual reporting in that it doesn't mention descendants. The format is to list '3 children, 8 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren' type stuff.

I like this from the Indie's story on this:

Several years ago, Mr Weighton said he had asked to stop receiving birthday cards from the Queen each year because he did not want to have “a huge collection” in his apartment.

“I did accept one from her two years ago,” he said in 2017, “because it is the only one I’d seen that she was smiling on.”

Maybe, but there's a cast iron template for these stories 'broke the record... still lives at home/is in care home... remembers WW1... worked in munitions... still goes dogging... celebrated birthday surrounded by 83 grandchildren... puts it all down to colloidal silver...'.
it's a template he seems to have little truck with going by the interviews I've read, so I guess he wouldn't tell them or something.

If I survive to be the world's oldest man, I'll probably spend weeks trying to think up snappy quotes for the newspapers, then facepalm when I remember there haven't been any newspapers for 40 years.

-What's your secret?
-Kill everyone older than you. The best part is that when someone dies aged 113 nobody bother to check for cause of death, they just write 'being 113'. That's saved me a lot of legal problems.

Massive ears. It’s true that thing they say that your ears keep growing throughout your life even after other bits stop growing.

So Britain's oldest men and woman were all born on 29 March.

If you predict due date like so:

When is my due date?
There are a few ways to calculate your due date; the first is based on the first day of your last period (LMP). Here is the formula:
  • Write out your LMP.
  • Subtract three months.
  • Add seven days.
So, say your LMP was on April 10th:
  • Subtracting three months from April brings you to January.
  • Adding seven days to 10 gives you 17.
  • Your due date is January 17th.

Then if your LMP was on June 22nd:
  • Subtracting three months from June brings you to March.
  • Adding seven days to 22 gives you 29.
  • Your due date is March 29th.
Which suggests that the supercentinarians' folks got jiggy around the time of the summer solstice and that Mama SuperC was, atypically, fertile at the start of her period, rather than in the middle of her cycle.

Could this be key to longevity?

:hmm:

:hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

Didn't notice this story when it first appeared, but with his name he should also have been the world's heaviest man.

Anyway, RIP Bob.
