Anyone fancy a visit to the Woodberry Wetlands before Thames Water closes it for a year?

Yes, I noticed it's going to be closed!
I thought it was just for two months, January and February, but I walked round today and took a proper look at the notice there - saw it was until February 2026!
The section where the Coal House Cafe is will still be open and of course you can still get round the New River path through to the other Reservoir.

I only found out the closure starts on the 6th today, for some reason I thought it started end of January...

A disturbing start to the new year in Wick Road, Homerton, on Friday 3 January 2025:

I saw the clip and thought I recognised the street - very disturbing.

Colin Roach died from a gunshot wound in Stoke Newington police station on 12th January 1983.

This page collects together a bunch of resources about what is know about the death, the subsequent protests and the community's own Independent Commission of Inquiry: Who Killed Colin Roach? including a link to the 313 page book Policing In Hackney 1945-1984: A report commissioned by the Roach Family Support Committee.

Is there a comprehensive list of incidents / accidents / fatalities / corruption at SN pol?
Not a list exactly, but this covers a lot of ground:

A guy died there quite recently - "apparently" launching himself off the top of one of the payphones in the reception area. We never got to the bottom of that one either. https://www.eastlondonlines.co.uk/2...ington-police-station-sparks-community-vigil/

The new Stoke Newing- ton police station is intended to blend in with the local envi- ronment, giving the impression that the police are part of the local community.

Yet the architect somehow managed to design stokeys ugliest building, hands down.

From the Hackney Society's FB page re buildings at risk...

Can't believe that London Borough of Hackney has allowed the beautiful former Clapton Cinematograph built in 1910 to now look like this.. #hackney #heritage #london #planning

I don't know why they can't believe that when you consider eg the four aces club or the fate of the Georgian houses on dalston lane. The council has repeatedly shown contempt rather than concern for hackney's built heritage

I had my eyes on that brutalist thingy a few doors down bang on the roundabout for years. Top floor would make for perfect studio / artists spaces.
Spoke to hackney about it prolly 6 or 7 years ago, it is indeed council's, and cheap interim rent arrangements could be discussed, but building was due for development.
2 interested parties in q before me.
Never heard back from them, top floor still empty and in worse and worse condition.
What a waste.
