Of course it isn't, since the "gun culture" caricature masks a complex reality. There are undoubtedly "weapon carry yahoos", and a lot of them seem to find their way onto bulletin boards, but there're also plenty of people with a mature attitude to firearms and other weapons. Maturity often grows from familiarity, which is probably why contemporary Britain tends to exhibit a more ... excitable response to this issue.
