Guns of Brixton, Haringey and Tottenham: routine armed patrols

winjer

holocene death beat
A hand-picked team from CO19, the Metropolitan Police's elite firearms unit, will walk the beat in gun crime hotspots where armed gangs have turned entire estates into "no go" zones.

[...]

The team of 18 constables, led by an inspector and two sergeants, will begin their patrols of Brixton, Haringey and Tottenham on Nov 9, following successful trial schemes.

The officers – some on motorbikes – will carrying out weapon "sweeps" of their neighbourhoods in an effort to deter gang members from carrying guns, and are also intended to be a reassuring presence for residents.

10 years?

Guns have got more prolific, but fighting fire with fire (especially when it's wannabe ganstas and the old bill behind the triggers), seems a recipe for disaster.

Are there no go areas in Brixton now? There never used to be when I lived there when growing up.

Can someone get me a gun, please? I always hear how easy they are to come by, but every pub I've ever asked around has come up with nada. I just really, really want a fucking gun - is that seriously too much to ask?

I don't think they really exist. Everyone "knows someone" who can get you one no bother, but do they ever turn up? It's all just a big con to sell newspapers and policemen.

A psychologist acquaintance of mine had a patient who told her about the time when he paid one grand for a shooter down in Brixton. He was given it in a brown paper bag and got all the way home before realising he'd bought a banana.

Lol. Hope that is true...

Yeah, I really don't believe there is a single fucking gun in this entire country. All I want is a bloody gun! Geeeeeeeeeez....

Eh? How can Tottenham be in Haringey? Isn't Tottenham a distinct entity?

Tottenham is an area within the borough of Haringey. I assume it's a misspelling and the report should be Brixton, Tottenham and Harringay (which is the area around Green Lanes).

Is anyone going to write to the Telegraph about this .. mispelling of Haringay (I think its one r)

edited to add that its two:oops:
