Title’s a bit misleading yo. So let’s make it a thread about, y’know, great train journeys.
Carlisle to Settle is pretty cool, especially when you get diverted on to it by accident as happened to me a few years ago.
Been around the world a bit but funnily enough not on many great train journeys.
Death railway, Kanchanaburi to Nam Tok (bridge over the River Kwai and all that) was exceptional, because I sat on a carriage footplate the whole way. But getting to Nam Tok was a disaster with nothing much at all there, shit hotels and a long walk to a bank as the nearest one refused Visa.
Erm, struggling. Kandy to Nanu Oya, Sri Lanka, through tea plantations.
Ollantaytambo to Agua Calientes for Machu Picchu.
I’d like to hear about others.
