Germany v Portugal

I mis-heard the name of the German coach, I thought he was called Yogi Love, which would make him the coolest coach name ever.
 :D

so Scolari achieved exactly what Sven did with England - 3 tournaments and no trophies. wonder if the Portuguese press are treating him in a similar way?

I wish people wouldn't keep using that phrase. It's not like anybody ever actually thought that. Indeed as far as I'm aware it was put about the television, having copied it directly off the Portuguese description of Figo's team.

that was a great game to watch.

i think that michael ballack is much better since he has joined chelsea :)

don't too much improve on my original fave players schweinsteigers haircut. looks very chavy (am beginning to think he simply is one...nevermind as long as he is a good torschiesser i guess). also i think he aquited quite an attitude...nothing like two years ago when he was a shy newcomer...sighs. (schweinsteiger means pig mounter)

yogi love is a great name :) there was one camera shot of him smoking on pitch which was a bit out of order.

i think klose looks a bit similar to frank lampart.

sorry about the hello magazine style commenating. but i was very pleased to see germany in top form.

Personally I think football at this level is a lottery... some of the teams are quite similar in skill and tactics, and it's just who is having a good week or down to just plain luck.

Portugal could have scored 3 .... and the Germans did score 3, so it's almost always down to luck in my opinion. What annoys me is when a manager is judged upon the "Luck" his team had on one particular evening. The difference between a good manager and a bad one surely isn't a couple of goals in one match???

Spot on.

Also, Carvalho was marking Ballack, who's Germany's biggest aerial threat (I rate him as the best header in the game right now - tall, good technique and great timing and presence), and Carvalho is the best defensive header, so it was well matched. Ronaldo was marking Klose (as seen in the start of the play), but left him loose shortly after the cross. If he had the same commitment to defensive play than to screw perfectly good offensive plays with his "me me me" attitude, at least Klose would have to break a sweat to head it in. Pepe also left Podolski (I think) running free - if Klose missed the ball, Podolski would have just have to do a tap in.

As for Scolari, it's still to soon to see how he is going in history. While his work was mostly positive, the team always failed in crucial moments, like the Euro 2004 final. His decision to stick with Ricardo (who based his reputation on defending penalties against England - hardly rocket science) is already being criticized, so it depends a lot on the next manager's results. One thing is for certain - to be knocked out in the quarter-finals, there was no need for a super-expensive manager like Scolari.
