Gateshead Council and their 'scary street lights'

Everyone knows these people are nuts, there is no need to post their videos to prove it, or interact with them in any way really.. it just gets them more views and feeds their delusions. And I guess possibly gets other vulnerable people sucked in too.

Most people have already tried simply ignoring such cranks. As we can see, it's done precisely *dick* to make them go away or stop them exploiting the anxious.

They should be fought, not ignored.

Well they have never posted on this board at all, but now there is a load of links to their videos. That is doing nothing but spread their views

That's ridiculous. Bringing up something for discussion is not the same thing as promoting it. Should we not talk about neo-nazi activity on this forum for fear of "spreading their views"?

I would definitely say you shouldn't post links to neo nazis videos, or try to debate with them. Which is exactly what I said about these guys too, if you go back and read my first post.

Love the big jaunty logo of the publishers at the bottom.

Not a long-established company and appears it may be a garden shed operation ...

Well nobody here is debating them, largely since none of them have turned up, and if someone sees a nazi/conspiranut video and thinks "you know what, that actually makes sense", then they're already gone and it would make not one jot of difference whether anyone on this forums posts such videos or not.

You're still sounding like you basically want to ignore something in the hope it goes away. That doesn't fucking work.

I don't think people should repost their videos, and thereby spread their views. It is as simple as that.

Personally I also think it is a total waste of time to enter into some epic battle against a miniscule group of mentally ill people, but it is up to you how you spend your time. But reposting their videos on message boards, no, I think that is actually harmful so people shouldn't do it.

I actively comment on and downvote this sort of video.
It surely can't hurt to attract some of those who would be misled, to places where the bullshit is exposed.

I'm signed up to two ar$ebook groups where they highlight woo and fake science.

That would work for me (though not necessarily for the reasons you give). ;)

I think I catch your drift. Although on second thoughts I've seen a few too many 18650 battery fire videos (as in various ecig trouser mishaps) so perhaps something with slightly more benign chemical composition would be a safer bet.

Anyway returning to the proper subject of this thread, I seem to remember some 'wifi is making me really sick' people were tested in a controlled environment and couldnt demonstrate any special ability to tell when the wifi was actually on, rather confirming what most other people suspected. I feel bad for people who feel bad, but when they attribute it to the wrong cause it can be very hard to get them to shift those beliefs to something more productive.

Some of them may well be mentally ill, and it certainly wouldn't surprise me if the conspiracy crowd had a higher incidence of mental illness than the general population.

But that is a far cry from being able to declare the whole lot to be headcases, which I don't think you (or anyone else for that matter) can honestly do without actually performing a mass diagnosis.

A lot of people are simply idiots.
This was posted in "I know for a fucking fact that's not science" on ar$ebook today - a Zimbawean "inventor" who claims to be running an electric car on lead acid batteries charged by "wireless energy"

The credulous idiots on "Wake Up World" almost make me wish I wasn't so damn ethical ...

There's something quite reassuring about the old orange streetlights - reminds me of childhood.

I have a particular sensory memory that is incredibly nostalgic and sentimental to me. It's driving at night with mum and dad from the Top Valley area of Nottingham on the way home from a day visiting friends of the family, and looking down across the whole of Nottingham stretched out below, a sea of orange lights. It's comforting and sad and full of loss and happiness.

These white lights are childhood-ruining bastards.

That bloke in Gateshead has made a video documenting the risks. I defy you to watch it and not laugh (although yes, yes I know it's actually a bit sad)...

"

"See no birds, the only birds we have are seagulls and crows. Larger birds. ... That's not a bird, it's a blue plastic bag. Not a single bird. No birds. Murdered. " :D

He's in court today for allegedly threatening some local councillors over this
