Frankie Boyle - business as usual (Rebecca Adlington)

also it's less censorship than a deniale of authenticity. many comments (seem to at least) aim to deny the fact it is a joke. they wish to reduce it from comedy to meer insult. to deem it as social unacceptable.

it's not a direct call for censorship but it shares a thematic root

but you're not using your standards at all are you captain censor... you've got published and accepted critera for this which is availbe for all to download prior to your judgement or is this again a personal taste argument where you insist on being absolutitist... it isn't it...

so much for me being dishonest... you can't even recognise your own actions...

go on call me dishonest for stating you using your evaluational skill set not known either internally to urban or externally to the wider world as being a comedian or comic critic or indeed based on anything other than your own evaluation would be you attempt to censor comedy which doesn't chime with your own sense humour...
Too weird and nonsensical to even bother with.

tbh "captain censor" would be a fantastic name if editor ever becomes bored of his current one

Ah, comedy, the hardest most exact science. Her beauties intelligible to only the most select few. Chief among them Gareth.
No, no! You've got a list - give me your list.

And that's the irony - those keenest to defend Boyle and/or atttack this thread show the least understanding of the point you make.

Being shocking is fine if you do it whilst being original. Going 'ooh look, big nose' isn't exactly original. Jokes about women not being as gorgeous as our alcoholic chum? Phew, they're desperately bold, big AND clever.

Have to say that garf and a few others reactions to this (and a few other recent threads) highlights how a form of socially-liberal authoritarianism seems to have taken hold in certain sections of society. It's based on the idea of choice, freedom of choice, it's the bullies choice to bully, how dare you infringe on that. How dare you question people who've chosen to act in an anti-social manner that negatively impacts on the wider community. It's sort of thatcherism of morality hiding behind libertarian principles, and all it does in reality is defend power and the abuse of power. It's the individual above society. It's rank.

That's not my work btw - someone did that during bintgate - might have been pk, have a feeling it may have been drew?

You really can't see the difference? :hmm:
you really think there is one don't you...

either the topic is ok to joke about or it's not... the originator of the joke, the intent, is immaterial... I mean that's the stance coming from the majority of posters on the thread...

this is ok, this and this and this are ok, that is absolutely verboten and you're scum if you think otherwise...

Good stuff. :) There's something going on along the lines of 'don't use your free speech to complain about my free speech'.

Boyle can be fucking brilliantly funny when he wants to be and boring as hell too. Calling a comedian like him a bully is beyond satire though, it's just jokes you po faced fucktards!:D

ascribing thoughts, ideals and words to others ... yes this is rubbish...

I think you're reading far too much into it to be frank.

If it's po-faced to think it's a bit rich to publicly slag a woman off by saying that 'she must be really dirty because otherwise no-one would ever want to sleep with her' then colour me humourless *shrug*

I bet you thought that dickhead misogynist footballer twitter spat was funny too.

Garf, the process of thought and critical analysis would appear as rubbish to you. I would expect nothing less.

Nobody is forcing you to watch or read anything Boyle says.

How on earth does that change anything here at all? How does that make this not a classic case of bullying? Are you really suggesting that if it isn't targeted at you then it's OK?

In reality this sort of bullying is always an attack on others anyway, on what are seen as weaknesses or defects that society could do without. A naked exercise of power.

Given his notoriety, his pronouncements can be a bit tricky to avoid. I certainly didn't seek out his latest comments.

I think he knows whatever he says will be widely repeated.

Do you follow footballer Leon Knight on twitter? He's a hoot.

Totally off-topic I know, but the man is an astonishing cunt.
