Got it.Myself, I use a nice purple iron gall ink by Rohrer and Klingner that rejoices in the name "scabiosa", but that's because I'm a bit pretentious.
Any ideas where it can be found / bought?Oh, Scabiosa. Right. Yes. Purple.
TWD sell it - http://www.thewritingdesk.co.uk/showproduct.php?brand=Rohrer+and+Klingner&range=bottled+ink&cat=inkAny ideas where it can be found / bought?
I loaded a pen with some today actually - a TWSBI 530 with a B nib. It might look a bit pale and underwhelming in the spiderleg nibs you use, though.
Should be ok with a glass dip pen, though!I loaded a pen with some today actually - a TWSBI 530 with a B nib. It might look a bit pale and underwhelming in the spiderleg nibs you use, though.
What is a 'cupcake sticker,' and what kind of recipe (or grooming policy) requires one?View attachment 17269
Well, this is Scabiosa with the TWSBI B, anyway. 5mm Rhodia paper. Rather underwhelming light.

(btw, is that much weaker than oxblood?)
I would (L) some recommendations.http://www.urban75.net/forums/threads/making.289488
It's a greyish, dusky purple, not very colour-saturated i.e. low S on the HSV scale - it looks much like J Herbin Poussiere de Lune, rather than, say, Waterman Violet. I have a few purples if you want other recommendations.
£10-12 I'd go for the Platinum Carbon. So what is a good EF nib? I have a OHTO Tasche and pending parker sonnet both F nibs but they seem more like M nibs. I'd like to try a proper skinny nib.
HSV as in Hue, Saturation, Value - saturation being the intensity of the colour. Sort of thing.I would (L) some recommendations.
And a brief description of the HSV scale wouldn't go amiss, either

What sort of purple are you after?I'm unlikely to know until it turns out I like it
ty! Will have a look when we're back from salsa, and after I've tried making a chocolate marquiseThe aforementioned Waterman Violet is a pleasant brightish colour (as bright as, say, the blue) and very reliable, fairly mid-purple, between indigo and violet. Diamine Syrah is a more reddish purple that has a lot of shading. Diamine also make Eclipse, which is an absurdly dark ink that has purple edges to it - I regularly mistake it for black - a good work ink for things that should be in proper respectable ink but where you want to be a little individual.
It probably writes better than nearly all my other pens. And has one of my stand-out favourite nibs. Compared to anything else I've got close to that price range... it's just... a different kind of writing experience. Lovely, lovely pen. IMO.Cool, think I'll go with the carbon. Thanks!
Another good fine nibbed pen is the Wality eyedropper - http://www.andys-pens.co.uk/clearacrylic.shtml - which IME has a terrific nib for the price. They're also sold under the Airmail brand in India, where they're made. Not hyper-fine like a Sailor EF but pretty fine.So what is a good EF nib?
