Former players...

Going back a bit but Gwynne Berry is a bit of a globe trotter these days. He's currently back in England and watched Woking on Saturday. His time as Hamlet manager doesn't get mentioned on the linked website for some reason.

(For those not here back then he signed a lot of very good players he previously played with. Five or so years earlier they'd probably have won the league. Unfortunately age had begun to catch up with many of them, it didn't go too well.)

I didn't really know him, but he seemed a good bloke, whom managerial responsibilities were thrust upon. He struggled but quickly stood aside. A man with integrity.

Living out this way I've come across a few people who know/knew him on the non league circuit. The general consensus is Gwynne found he didn't enjoy management and preferred coaching. I'm not 100% certain but I don't think he's been a manager anywhere else?

It was Les Cleevely who signed all the veterans (including Gwynne) who would have won the league if we'd had them 5 years earlier. Gwynne reluctantly took over when Les walked out, being the senior player, when we were already doomed and two of our four league wins in the entire season came in his first few games. He was persuaded to take on the job for the following season and appointed Pete Johnson (brother of Torquay manager Gary) as his assistant. It looked like Johnson did most of the recruitment, it didn't work out, and Gwynne resigned a month into the new season after a 6-2 defeat at Worthing.

He was mamager for a small portion of the relegation from Isrhmian Prem wasnt he? Didn't we go through 4 or 5 managers during that season? If my addled memory isn't playing tricks on me, I remember Les Cleeveley taking the reigns too

Thanks. Scary how the mind plays tricks. I was sure Gwynne signed the players and Les replaced him...

Edited to say I think we had three permanent managers in the relegation season. Dave Garland, Les Cleevely and Gwynne. I don't think there was an interim manager between those three. I think Dave had just had enough, the budget was heavily cut that summer. Les walked as he heard a rumour his job had been offered to someone else, which the club denied. Given Gwynne replaced him I suspect the club were probably telling the truth.

As Pink Panther states Gwynne went quickly the following season, replaced by club chairman Martin Eede. He stayed in situ for five years give or take

Thoroughly decent chap, definitely better suited to coaching than management and was big enough to admit that in stepping down from the role at Dulwich.

Next to Gwynne far right bottom row is Paul Wiltshire who joined us from a Budesliga div 2 team. Centre in the front row is Jimmy Mahoney who played a couple for us I seem to remember. The Kenny Samson lookalike is a good mate of mine Richard Bolton who had a few run outs with Croydon. The manager back row left is Clive Thompson the old Croydon Athletic coach(?). There’s a few others littering that picture. Marc Flemington, Ricky Walkes, Dale Jasper who played at various levels

Justin Fevrier has departed as Corinthian Casuals manager. He initially seemed to have them turning the corner but they dropped off again and look doomed to relegation.

Epsom & Ewell have put Chairman Barry Gartell in temporary charge of the team. He's the brother of ex Hamlet man Clive, who acted as Temporary Joint Manager a couple of years ago so may well pop up there again.
