I don't think the matter can be addressed or judged by employment law . It needs to be addressed on the basis of whether the club want to associate itself with an employee who will always be remembered for rape and domestic violence. Any charity or promotional work around domestic violence or violence against women that the club might wish to do ( and no doubt might as a pang of conscience ) with be ridiculed for hypocrisy. It's a stain that won't go away tbh. We need to call time on domestic violence, most football supporters would, I'm sure agree with that.

In terms of this case, I think a club has the right to make decisions like this based on how it is perceived but (and please don't think this is whataboutery) the hypocrisy argument has already come and gone - Ronaldo (CR7) faced very similar allegations to this at almost the exact same stage in his career and United did nothing about it. The hypocrisy boat has long since sailed at football clubs where players are too important to make an example of - see for example Suarez, or Toney.
