i should be able to come to most of the dates..i think. would be lovely to meet soon.

i feel a bit of a reality shock as well zora..

STOP PRESS:

There are Seville oranges in the shops, which means it's marmalade-making season - this is not going to last for long. If people wanted to do a marmalade make, it's kind of now or never (or at any rate not till next year).

It's probably a bit much to cram marmalade in on top of pattern copying and sewing-machine-getting-to-grips-with though...

I notice Abel & Cole are doing seville oranges too.. i was thinking about making some marmelade myself....

I've only a small kitchen, but I do have a BIG pot if a couple of people want to give it a go. the only thing is I was talking to my step-grandmother-in-common-law the other day and she said you have to boil it for quite a long time.. a couple of hours or something.....

dunno if that's true..

*goes off to look at recipe*

YEs that seems to be about right... they all seem to be along the lines of:

Time: 2 hours to boil the orange rinds. 10 minutes to boil the syrup. 20 minutes to 30 minutes to boil the marmalade.... so we'd be finishing rather late.

However, I am keen to make marmalade and would be up for doing it on the afternoon of Saturday 14th if anyone else is - could also do S&B then if people prefer, although I think it might be difficult to rearrange it for some people now? I could even order all the oranges from Abel & Cole which comes to me on Fridays. They're charging £3.15 for a 1kilo bag. Anyway, I'm happy to do both.

There's a recipe here:

Oooh ooh, I'm up for joining in a marmalade sesh if we have one!
That will perk up our New Year blues for sure :) - marmalade on toast, mmm :) Can make both Thursday or Saturday.

I'm also starting to make a cushion cover so can actually join in some stitching for a change - yipee!

han has been a mod since aaaaages

see you thursday (goes and figures which thursday it is)?

I can't make Saturday 14th either. Bloody work.

I could do the Sunday though, in the afternoon.

Sorry.. Sunday isn't really very good for me. K is going away skiing tomorrow for 10 days and will be back that morning, so I'd like to spend a bit of time with him.

Abandoner of girlfriend that he is...

I still can't come on Thursday, but if you do have the marmalade session on Saturday, I will come :)

I'll even buy myself some jars!

Can we have the marmalade session another week, maybe, so I can make at least one of the sessions?

I don't see why not. It's only that Ruby reckons that the oranges won't be around that long... I'm pretty sure that A&C had them for at least a month last year.

I know that your schedule is a bit all over the place so why don't you suggest a time that's good for you - if I can't make it I can always make marmalade at home anyway, so it's not a problem. You could always do it on the Sunday (15th) at your place! :)

i definately need patterns for cotton.

I have Rowan #35 which is virtually just cottons and can bring along.

I've been working on the Ivy pattern since the mag came out and am always put off by the combo of cotton (hard on the fingers after a while) and the fine gauge (3mm needles for an entire cardi? Dear god). I also have Calmer and cotton tape pattern books if you're interested. Of course, all available to borrow.

I'd defintely like to look at the calmer book. When i've done the magknits calmer t-shirt, i'll still have 13 and a bit balls to use. and the rowan 35 as well. thanks a lot

Calmer is pretty east to work with, i've been knitting only that since newyears eve and my hands aren't that bad. i guess i will learn what it's like to work in 4ply cotton when i get onto useing the bag i've got.

Here's an interesting cotton pattern (attached). Is the Magknits the t-shirt or the picivoli?

I have a sizeable collection of patterns I've downloaded/found/copied  and am not sure how to share them with y'all. This one is Rowan's All seasons cotton, so somewhat appropriate. Any thoughts as to pattern organisation? Perhaps the sticky thread?
