Favourite veggie sausage?

What's the best banger?

I used to love sausages before I switched. Cauldron were the leader for a bit, but do like Richmonds. I suspect they are awful as a company though so does leave me conflicted.

Definitely looking for a good hot dog style one I could have with mustard and chilli.

I don't remember that. Got a link?

This maybe?

1992 article about a recall when veggie pies produced by someone else, "endorsed by" linda mcartney (so I'm presuming sold under that brand name) had meat in them. Can't find anything more about it or if they worked out what had happened, but it's not like they were intentionally using some meat/animal derived product in their veggie/vegan food.

on topic of the thread, voted cauldron, actually just finished a cauldron lincolnshire sausage sandwich as it happens. Agree with the poster about the linda mccartney rosemary sausages which are quite nice, not a fan of the normal sausages or quorn sausages. Not tried richmonds or others mentioned on this thread.

I remember it well because my wife worked at Ross Youngs in Grimsby.

eta at the time they were using the same factory to produce her foods and meat products. This was in addition to the deliberate contamination.

As I said further up I rate these.

Just 3 or 4 minutes in the water. They don't have the complete snap of a full on Yank hotdog, decent texture, tiny bit more veg flavoured but they do a really good job. I have had them at festivals many times then realised I could have them at home but couldn't justify the price to myself, £4 for 4 sometimes more, but then cottoned on I pay a fiver for 1 at a festival  Have had them this week actually with onions, mustard etc.

Fuck it I'll give them a go for a treat.

As mentioned on the veggie thread, M&S Chorizo Puppies are worth a shot, they are the only veggie sausages I have actually bought more than once.

I had some Good Life ones today and they were awful.

They are twice as long as normal sausages though, so it's the equivalent of 8. Which is how I justify it. Very tasty.

Only seen them in Waitrose.

Cauldron Lincolnshire saugsages for me... though the texture is if anything abit too close to the real thing..

I mostly eat Sainsbury's Cumberland shroomdogs which have been through a few mutations recently and now been relabelled as Plant Pioneers brand. They were better before they were vegan really.

I also had a phase of Iceland No Porkies but then suddenly went off them in a big way.

I am very fussy about veggie sausages because I do not like the taste of either soya or quorn which cuts out a lot of options.

I do like the red onion and rosemary Lindas - they taste a bit like herby stuffing :D
The regular Lindas are also ok but nowhere near in the same league.
There also used to (many years ago) be some available that were mostly carrot based and they were bloody lovely, I can't recall the brand though.
I am also partial to Glamorgan sausage type things - you can't really go wrong with something made mostly of cheese and leek :D

Also once had some lovely ones in a restaurant - made in the kitchen by the chef, they were smoked butter bean sausages and they were fucking lush :) Very tempted to give it a go at home if I can find any smoked butter beans!

I've had these a few times and they're really nice, £2.50 in tescos. Not even going to try the Richmond ones.
Anyone fancying hot dog style sausage steer clear from 'Moving Mountains' in Sainsbury's! 4 for £5, thought I'd treat myself, you have to cook them all at once and they are bloody awful.
Fry's artisan hotdogs are crap as well.
I wonder what happened to the cheap frozen supermarket ones that took a few minutes ( not vegan cos they had free range egg white in)?

We have the Cauldron ones in this house. As a meat eater, they are the best I've found. Linda MaCartney's were awful, and mrs mx (veggie) doesn't like any of her stuff. Maybe I'll give the Richmond ones a go.

Those are my favourites, too. The texture is very good.

I have Heck ones today, which I've never tried. I usually only buy frozen ones because I get pissed off with going down the meat aisle to get non-meat things.

You might be surprised. They're really tasty even though I can remember how awful their meat sausages used to be.
It's not that I might not like them, it's just the fact it's Richmond. Same with Heck. It'd be like Bernard Mathews bringing out fake turkey, not sure I want to give them my dosh.

I have got some of these to try, I do like a veggie hotdog. Then I realised you have to defrost them before cooking. What's the fucking point of that then?

They should be 2 packs of 2. I was going to email them and suggest that. But then I tried them and thought fuck it they're shit anyway.

I have changed my mind. I had a pub meal in North Wales and my friend had veggie Sausage and mash and on eating some sausage she spat it out and claimed it was meat! She got me to try it as I'm not a vegetarian and I agreed definitely meat and soo delicious. Complained to the waiter about the terrible mistake....and he and the chef insisted they were not meat and brought the box out and we googled the manufacturer and well im not only amazed, but off to Sainsburys to buy some later.

The company is called moving mountains- it is expensive at just over a pound per sausage, but they are incredible!!!! :)

You'd be missing out. Their vegan sausages are really tasty.

And to answer the OP: I'd have to go for two choices: Quorn and Richmond. I think the Linda McCartney ones are awful.

This is ironic considering Richmond non-veggie sausages are terrible.

Whilst the fake meats are convenient and great for a quick tea, I have to say the ones that promise to be 'meaty' are the biggest turn-off for me. I couldn't tolerate meat from early age because of the texture, never mind the taste, so the more obviously vegetable-based the better. I've just found the Wicken Fen Mushroom /Tarragon online, so will see if they're as nice as I remember.

We tried The Vegetarian Butcher meatballs last night for the first time. We are going to try their sausage purely on how good the meatballs were.

Yes I had thought of this. I'm not veggie but would happily never eat another meat sausage as long as the movi g mountain ones are around.
