Euro 2024

I also thought- for the first time - some of the hype seemed to have slightly gone to his head. He was trying too hard to boss the match and it wasn’t happening, lost the ball a few times overplaying it.
Yeah, I was watching too and he looked really fucked off. There was a little period where he didn't get a foul and he threw his arms about and then got up and sulked about for a bit. Really odd. I don't know if somethings up with them all but he really looked like he didn't want to be there

Hopefully nothing. He has seemed miraculously level-headed so far considering the season he has had.

Maybe they’re all a bit fed up with Southgate 🤷‍♂️

Who do we have the can play in DM besides Rice, can’t even remember the selection cos I’ve fallen outta interest with top level stuff massively. Hang-on yeah, what about Mainoo?

Looking at it now he could have played.

Striker
Grealish Kane Saka
Rice Bellingham
DM

You want that striker stretching the play so that Kane finds space and can pop it either through or wide, or get Rice and Bellingham either coming onto it or overloading the channels. Grealish well could have done a job keeping it like he does at City.

This allows people space to play and lets Bellingham play his superman/Zidane hybrid role he loves to play without trying to crowbar Foden in just cos player of the year.

Dunno tho 🤷

And yeah Foden has disappointed for two tournaments now. Well one and a bit.
He's going to, being played out of position. We're back to the age old tactic of shoehorning names in, out of their natural position. It's like watching us desperately trying to play Gerrard and Lampard at the same time again. Put Gordon on the left where he ACTUALLY PLAYS ffs.

You do know that Grealish is not in the squad....?

Rice is head and shoulders our best 6 , Bellingham could still be box to box as an 8 and Foden should play as a 10.

Rice is our box to box player, then one of Bellingham or Foden in front of Mainoo. Fodz and Bellz don’t work in the same team afaics.

Exactly. Grealish could have played there and since he hasn’t been picked it should be another natural left-winger. I didn’t think that’d need spelling out

ETA Kane is our best passer so of course it makes sense to have him drop and ping it.

Kane needs a Son Heung Min, or a Sane/Coman/Gnabry, or a Rashford/Sterling. He's a great striker in the traditional no.9 sense playing in and around the penalty area, but he's also a great Teddy Sheringham-style link player, and that desperately needs someone running beyond him - if there isn't, centre backs can go with him without fear of leaving a space in behind.

Saka and Gordon could be a quality pair of wingers in terms of stretching the pitch wide, but Gordon's pace and direct runs would also prevent opponents from being able to play a high defensive line or allowing one CB to push out.

When you have players as good as Kane and Bellingham, you don't drop them because they don't fit a style; you put players around them to maximise their strengths.

I meant drop deep.

ETA Kane’s our best player by far and one of England’s greatest ever. I think he should be playing as No. 10

Lively start to the GEO v CZE game.
Neither team holding on for a draw.

That's a goal for me. It's hit his face and was going in, no deliberate movement of the arm. He had literally no idea what was going on.

Deliberate or not he knocked it into the goal with his hand.
Who does he think he is, Maradona?

He didn't though did he. It's hit his face and that deflection was going in. The fact it's hit his arm on the way when he's falling backwards and has no idea what's going on is irrelevant. The ball hitting his arm did not change the direction of the ball, therefore it is not deliberate. Goal should stand.

what?

He's not a crossing left winger though, he's right footed so usually comes inside. We basically need Luke Shaw (or Leif Davies but that was never going to happen)

Kane hasn't played a single game of his whole career as a no.10 though? He has all the right attributes for it and it's part of his game, but mostly because coming away from his marker affords him space that he otherwise wouldn't have i.e. he knows when to occupy the CBs for others and when to drop deep for runners. A 9 1/2, if we're putting numbers on it.

That’s not the rule though. The laws say an offence is committed if a player: ‘scores in the opponents’ goal directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper’

You don’t think Rice is a quality number 8 ?

He stays wide and either runs his man, or retains possession. If you’ve got a striker running the back line and 2 no. 8s coming onto play, then his skills would be a massive benefit. Are you telling us that you know better than Pep :D Get down off them trapeze bars lad.

Basic comprehension seems beyond you. So does offering analysis, or even making attempts to further the conversation, just snide bollocks.

Stop making me repeat myself just because you’re crying into to your cornflakes cos England are bottling rotters that yet again happen to be stinking another tournament out. Not my fault is it
