Euro 2022

Anyone else watching Portugal v Switzerland? Great stuff from Portugal in the 2nd half!
only saw the first half, and Portugal were crap then.

Then went out to see Netherlands v Sweden and,, even though the football wasn't the greatest ever (a disjointed first half thanks to injuries on dutch players, followed by a vastly improved second half) the whole thing was great. Top atmosphere wandering between pubs prematch (Bramall Lane being one of the most city central grounds is a real plus) and the fullest match I've been at at the lane for twenty years. Largest ever attendance for a Women's Euro's match not involving the home nation, apparently. Both Netherlands and Sweden must have had 5k fans in their respective ends -Both solidly orange/yellow).

We were torn on who to support, one mate was going Sweden cos they've got a Citeh player in their team, but the rest were more Netherlands because we've smoked weed there. And then the Dutch fans started playing Bella Ciao, we obviously we went with them. Until the Swedes started singing what we were sure was the Slits' Typical Girls. I'm gonna have to watch that bit back, but if they really did, then we're Team Sweden all the way.

Yeah, they got a lot better after that! Almost ended up winning it.

Great stuff! It definitely felt like a good atmosphere just from watching on TV, can't say I noticed anyone singing Typical Girls but I want it to be true 😁

Portugal v Switzerland turned out to be a great game.

Was already inclined to support Portugal as they weren't even expecting to be here, but then their 'keeper was warming up in front of our seats and I had to support her out of "short, left-footed soldiarity".

Turns out quite a few of the Portugal side were fellow shorties. Indeed, as they lined up in the area ahead of Switzerland's second goal, I remarked "bloody hell, she's got about half a foot on everyone marking her". That was Kiwic, who subsequently scored the header :D

Obviously at that point we all feared the worst, but Portugal really grew into the game, and were all over the Swiss in the second half (which was nice, as they were attacking our end  ). And it was good football, too; taking players on, getting in behind, brilliant stuff.

Frankly, they probably should have won, they had the chances, and are probably pretty annoyed they didn't.

Portugal celebrate after their second goal:

Yeah I was pretty much neutral to start with but Portugal totally won me over as the game went on and they were really taking some risks to win it by the end bit of a shame they couldn't just nick it.

And nice to see the photos from you and belboid do either of you have any other matches lined up?

I was wondering if France would actually turn up this time. They seem to have answered that question fairly comprehensively.

I’ve got to see if me dad fancies that match next Sunday. If not, my next game is the day after, Iceland v France at New York, which I’ll return to for the quarter final (which already looks like being France v someone) and then back to the Lane for the (England, probably/hopefully) semi. We’re in the posh seats for that one. And then down to Wembley for the finale.

How that was not a red card is insane.

It was actually three red cards in one tackle. First the kick into the midfriff, then the WWE style two leg wrap take down and finally releasing her left foot to aim a kick. I mean an awesome move, but sadly the wrong game.

(if you're fussed and want to see it on any media catch up devices it happens at 62 mins.

One of the commentators remarked that one team in another group wouldn't want to come second because that would mean they'd likely end up playing France in the next round. I see what they meant now :)

Assuming I keep testing negative (which I just did, despite feeling awful :hmm:  ), I've got

Wed 13 Sweden v Switzerland (Sheffield)
Thu 12 France v Belgium (Rotherham)
Fri 13 N. Ireland v England (Southampton)
Wed 20 QF 1 (Brighton)
Thu 21 QF 2 (Brentford)
Wed 27 SF 1 (Milton Keynes)
Sun 31 Final (Wembley)

One at every ground. A stupid endeavour, really, 'cause honestly, who the fuck is gonna care   :D

Hope you feel better soon and stay covid free

Oooh, White bought that a bit, in that sense where she knew she wasn't getting to the ball and took advantage of the arm across her body.

Well, not quite sure this is quite what we were all expecting!

Norway have certainly had their moments too, but looking very rocky at the back!

im not a regular footy person. But 6 nowt at 45 minits is really something. Well done the women - what a game. Tremendous

Ref made two dodgy decisions, but the England team were clearly the better side.

How much of a drubbing will Northern Ireland receive on Friday? Are England any match for France?

Fucking hell Come to England get covid . Miedema's got it too I was looking forward to her playing :(

And yep great England game, were inches away from getting another three or four.

Think I'm right in saying we'd meet either Spain or Denmark in QF - neither of which have looked particularly convincing so far
