Euro 2022

Saw the whole thing, in a pub containing a fair few Sweden-supporting Welsh people! :p :D

The Swedish goalkeeper was truly dreadful!

England got better and better as time went on though! :)

I'm half-hoping Germany manage to overcome France tomorrow (but with difficulty! ;) ) as I reckon the Germans might? be a tad more beatable than France in the final (??)

Normally when I go to matches, I'm in the away end. Stuck in one corner, or behind a goal if I'm lucky. Superb when it's down your end, shite when it isn't. Forest Green allowed me to wander up and down as the match went on, but, somehow, from a space that was lower than the pitch. When I'm at home for Tranmere, I'm normally in the kop, cos it's got the best atmosphere.

So tonight was deeply unusual. The seats we got weren't just good, they were fucking excellent, with a superb view of everything. And they were padded, actually comfortable. And the atmosphere was unbelievable. Just incredibly jovial. I've seen us [Tranmere] at Wembley, losing in a sold out old stadium in the League Cup Final (diving wanker Heskey), winning and losing in very unsold out conference/league 2 play off finals. They've been great matches, friendly and all probably had larger attendances than this. But a sold out Bramall Lane is something to behold. We've had the best attended group games of anyone, the most rambunctious fan zones. And then there was the foot ball. Sweden looking superb for the first half of the first half. And then...

What a performance, quite possibly the best game of football I've ever attended.

Also, I got video of former Workers Power member and avowed anti-imperialist, mrsb, chanting Ingerland... which I'll be able to blackmail her with for decades

Completely agree belboid. i'm not a match attender, jus a telly watcher, but i don't remember another game i enjoyed as much (apart from watching my son's very first infant school game!). To think of all the years when women were effectively barred from participation by reactionary cultural attitudes.. people were being denied (often willingly of course) access to pure joy.

"INGERLUND" 😂

Did the WP person also rise for the national anthem?😂

Whistled the Great Escape on the way home ;)
I’m really enjoying the lack of fouling, diving and play acting in this match, compared with what I’m used to seeing in the men’s game.
Of the handful of women's games I've seen there has been a tiny bit of play acting, but none of the rest...though also I cant recall seeing any sliding tackles, legal or otherwise

There's plenty of fouls and slide tackles, maybe not so many blatant dives yet more just your general exaggeration but they're getting there

I've noticed a refreshing lack of play acting too. Really good to see.

This whole tournament has just been an ace thing all round really. I'm effectively ignoring the news and just reading about football right now and my general wellbeing levels are massively improved as a result.

Really looking forward to the final

Hardly any offsides either - not sure why?
Not sure that’s entirely true. It has been in most of the knockout games so far, but only a little. Average of 3 per game v 3.8 n the mens game. As Thaw just said, partly it’s down to deep defending, tho last night the England front line just wasn’t quick enough (turned out okay tho). England v Spain had 5 offsides cos the Spanish were really good at pressing and playing the trap.

She was ‘still finding her seat’ at that point, so it was a coincidence, honest.

I also discovered last night that although we’ve been to several games together and she has watched many more on the telly, she has a pretty decent understanding of the offside rule but did not understand why a team got a corner, rather than a goal kick.

It's the lack of everything I hate about modern football which makes this so enjoyable. There's no racism, no hostility to other countries, very little (if any) play acting on the pitch, and no pissed up wankers shouting jingoistic slurs everywhere. I haven't seen any police having to keep order in the pubs. It's just, so refreshing. Not to mention the incredible talent and quality of football on the pitch.

Compare that with the ridiculous scenes last year with dickheads trying to storm Wembley stadium and all the racist scum rearing their heads to have a pop just because some black players missed a penalty. I know what I'd rather watch.

The thing I don't understand is commentators almost universally saying "a corner KICK" and "a penalty KICK" as opposed to just "a corner" and "a penalty" as when I were a youf. "Goal kick" is sensible to distinguish it from "Goal" but I don't understand the others.

Yes seems to be less play acting and professional fouls, although there does seem a fair bit of shirt tugging when a player's gone past them.

It's must more enjoyable than the average premier league match or even the average professional mens match come to that; could almost make me want to go to a match again.

Particularly impressed by the general quality of passing and close control. French forwards particularly, looking forward to seeing them again tonight.

I've been turned off from most domestic top-tier men's football for years. I still tune in for the Euros or the World Cup but I can't deal with all the machismo tribalism of the top leagues. It's like a magnet for cunts. It's also ridiculously overpriced, over-corporatized, and overwhelmingly sponsored by the gambling industry.

I'd say Ellen White is flying the flag for play acting in this tournament.

But last night was so enjoyable to watch - even if it was at Bramall Lane (did spot a couple of Wednesday shirts in the crowd though).

Unfortunately I'm going to miss Sunday as will be inside a baseball stadium at the same time

Unfortunately, it will inevitably creep in here and there. As will even more corporate sponsorship which tbf it needs. Some players in the WSL only make around £30k a year in wages!

But hopefully it'll always be a world apart from the football firms and knuckle draggers who bring down the men's game.

Yes two sheds, i noticed the same things. The Russo back kick filled me with such enthusiasm that i later went 'you tubing' for Pele's skill set! An unfair comparison, but Russo's flair and daring just did have me recalling the joy of watching the master perform. Excited for more in the coming days.

I'm torn about who I want. France are far more enjoyable to watch, but I haven't seen Germany 'live'

Annoyingly, I got offered a ticket for the game, but the bloody RMT.......
