Euro 2022

Exasperated, not angry.
Tickets are on sale now and at bargain prices. England tickets are available from £15-40 with final tix only £25-50. I'll probably skip England, seeing as they're playing in Brighton and Southampton after the opener at Old Trafford, but will probably make at least some of the games in Rotherham and Bramall Lane - which includes a quarters and a semis match.

Can England make it to a third final? Only time will tell!

Draw for the tournament is today at 5pm; coverage starts on BBC One (and their website) from 4:30pm.

Sounds fairly simple for once, with little of the "this team can't play that team" stuff that moves teams and slots around as the draw happens.

The top two teams in each pool at the end of the group-stage advance to the quarter-finals.

The draw starts with the top-seeded teams in Pot 1. We already know hosts England are in group A and the Netherlands, Germany and France will each be placed in one of the other three groups.

After a team's group is decided, the side's position in the group - eg A1, A2, A3 or A4 - is determined by drawing a ball - this position determining the order of who plays when in the group.

The draw continues with Pots 2, 3 and 4 to decide which group each team is in and which position they occupy within that group.

Seeding pots
Already in position 1 of Group A: England (hosts)

Pot 1: Netherlands (holders), Germany, France
Pot 2: Sweden, Spain, Norway, Italy
Pot 3: Denmark, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria
Pot 4: Iceland, Russia, Finland, Northern Ireland

Naively, I was thinking that because the coverage started at 4.30 then we'd have had that half hours worth of crap then.

People in the audience sitting there with open notebooks. What are they taking notes on; is it that hard to remember three other teams??!

Just got sent the ticketing details for the games, the most in demand tickets are:
Very Strong Demand
The Final (Wembley)
Italy v Belgium (Citeh Academy)
Italy v Iceland (Citeh Academy)
Belgium v Iceland (Citeh Academy)

Strong Demand
England V Austria (Opener, Old Trafford)
England v Norway (Brighton)
NornIron v England (Southampton)

All the rest are piece of piss to get, apparently. Hopefully, England will play at Bramall Lane for that semi.

Just got my tix for another three games, now they’re on general sale. Neds/Sweds at bramall lane should be a cracker. Then ones for the New York quarter final & Sheffield semi. Annoyingly I accidentally bought ‘tickets+’ for them at £60 not £40 and I don’t even know what you get for that!

Squinted at that for quite a while, have now belatedly learned that it's the Rotherham New York, not to be confused with any other better-known places with the same name.

Will Russia be allowed to play in this? If they’re excluded, what happens then?
Nope, they will probably be replaced by Portugal.

Four teams get to play all their group games in the same place plus the quarter final if they win their group. I doubt it will be much advantage for Brighton based Norniron, nor for Probably Portugal in Leigh. Germany will be happy with London (well, Brentford), but poor old France have to spend a month in Rotherham.

I couldn’t possibly have done that on purpose :)

Group C looks like a tough one then, although to be fair there are so many good national teams in Europe these days, I guess they all are.

Now I come to think of it, I remember the New York Tavern as being a pretty nice pub on Westgate.

C will be tough between the top 2, I wouldn’t be at all surprised by a NedsSweds final.

Similar for B, tho I expect Germany to win it. Spain are actually tournament favourites at the mo - largely due to a large Barca contingent, but they haven’t played together enough as a team.

D - France to win it, but who can tell for second? Iceland will have an advantage as even Rotherham will seem balmy to them

A - England plus AN Other

My tickets have 'arrived' (well, I got an email telling me to download an app). We're in the Tony Currie Suite for the semi-final, which isn't worth paying double for, but should be a laugh anyway.

Bet that'll be better that paying to watch the mens team playing in the slavery built, dodgy nations world Cup.

I'll keep an eye out for you on telly 😀

Bit of a diversion but the England U19s games have been really good. Villa's Chukwuemeaka has been superb, made a couple of goals and took one coolly someone to watch out for.

Really looking forward to this, England are 4/1 second favorites Spain 7/2 favs
N Ireland 250/1 and Austria the team England play first are 66/1 to win outright
well to make it a bit of fun I have £10 on England

I am really looking forward to this as well - but with typical luck, Yorkshire have been drawn to play Surrey at the Oval this evening in the T20 so i'm going to miss the opening game.

Was a nice experience actually going to Old Trafford for the first time, couldn't really get into the game, feel like I possibly was just really not in the right headspace for it?

I’ve only ever been ten years ago, for the olympics. Saw GB V Uruguay, Suarez n all. So that was nice. But the ground was bang average and, likewise, it wasn’t really a game I could get enthralled in.

Not a thriller by any means, but the win is all that matters
and goes to show this tournament will be full of surprises
not as straightforward as we think, well I hope anyway.

I was really enamoured with the pre-match build up and atmosphere, felt more like a genuine party with people there to simply enjoy themselves.

That said, did get a little irritated when the Mexican waves and paper planes started. I get it, especially as there were a lot of kids, but still, kind of conditioned to see that as disrespectful to the players.

Aaaaaaanyway, one stadium down, nine to go

From these first four matches, England aint getting past the quarters unless they improve significantly.

They'll need to to beat Norway, but come first or second in the group, both Spain and Germany (probable QF opponents) have looked much sharper.
