Euro 2008

To be fair, you say that about every manager though.

I don't want to drift off topic here, but you'd say that if it was Jeanette Kranky coming in as manager.

Sweinsteiger. Pig fucker? That's why they have the mental strength they do. It's the Boy Named Sue syndrome "you'd have to get tough or die".

Good start. Poland were up for that. Defence does look dodgy though.
Yeah i thought Hansen was gonna have a stroke after the 2nd goal. :D

Am i being oversensitive or was it a little inappropriate for Lineker to wear a black shirt for the Germany-Poland game?

And do not get me started on th S*n launching a Polish language version. Hypocritical fuckers.

I meant the German defence. The midfield and attack look good but apart from Lahm the back five are suspect. Poland looked a like a decent Championship club. We'll see how they compare against the uber-nationalists on Thursday.

Day Two matches - My thoughts

Austria vs Croatia.

After watching for most of this match i thought that the co-hosts were very unlucky and they well-exceeded pre-tournament expectations with today's heartfelt effort. Whilst Croatia were very lucky to hold on for the 1-0 win.

Mad Dog Pogatetz should have been red carded for his flailing arm & kicked out on Ivica Olic. If the Austrians had a half-decent striker, they may have scored a goal or two from one of Martin Harnik's crosses. Also they will rue the silly penalty gave away by Rene Aufhauser (their most experienced player) to the Croats after 3 mins.

I thought that Harnik Who plays for Werder Bremen was imo my Man of the Match; both he and Joachim Standfest looked really good going down the right and the substitute Korkmaz who was lively when he came on (in the 2nd half) has to start in the next game against Poland.

As for Croatia after Luka Modric gave them the perfect start after the early penalty. They were in control for the first 25 mins of the first half. But during the last 20 mins and most of the second half the home team dominated. I know it's only the first match but they seem to be sluggish, in terms of possession and build up play.

Plus they lack a bit ideas up front, perhaps the team abscence of Eduardo is a factor in that. I quite agree with what their coach Bilic said about the ocassion & expectation got to his team. They need to improve with the matches they've got

Germany vs Poland- i only saw the last 15 minutes of the match. From what i was told that after The Polish starting well, Germany took the lead with a well crafted goal. Plus Klose and rising star Mario Gomez missed sitters at this level. Lukas Podolski after a poor season for Bayern Munich gets a double. Podolski whenever i've seen him plays well for Germany, but not for this club side, similiar situation to David Healy

Poland had a couple of opportunities in the game, competed well & weren't tood bad in possession against their arch rivals, up until the last 20 mins. So their record of not beating Deutschland in competitive matches continues.

A good start for the heavily backed Germans, so it's Croatia next for them. Whilst for Poland it's Austria next.

Metzelder looked dead on his feet at the end mind....hardly surprising since he's hardly played this season. Pearce also managed to commit the cardinal sin of saying he played for "real". Who? Zaragoza? Betis? Mallorca? They're called Real Madrid

Just the same as presenters do when referring constantly to "United".

Who? Newcastle? Leeds? West Ham? etc...

Hansen used to refer to Manchester all the time when he was referring to Man Utd. That obviously annoyed me even though City were messing about in the third level at the time.

Here, people use "Manchester" as shorthand for "Manchester United" all the time. Personally I prefer it to the use of "United", but there you go.

cant say i get fussed when man united get called united.

Ronaldo doesnt play for west ham so its obvious who they are on about.

Two great fixtures in prospect tonight.
And I'm working 5-10  :( VCR will be getting one last run of glory in this tournament.

Depsite supporting a United (Newcastle), I do have a tendency to refer to Fergie's team as Utd  I've been trying to curb it though, using Man Yoo or Man Utd instead.

Did anyone else think Gomez looked a bit pants last night? A good first touch and top class diving skillz but that was about it.

Henry's not made the starting XI for the French and looking at their unimpressive defensive unit I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Romanians spring a surprise.

Apparently one of the Romanian players has a reputation for being the unluckiest player in football. Florentin Petre somehow managed to accidentally electrocute himself with a live cable while fishing. That put him out for several months and then just prior to his return he contracted Hep C which put him on the sidelines for a further two years. He's supposed to be quite good though and one to look out for.

Another Romanian worth keeping an eye on is Banel Nicolita who is one of the few players of genuine Roma ethnicity playing for Romanian.

So I reckon we're looking at a 1-1 draw or 1-0 to the Romanians.
