euro 2008: who to be this summer?

I already have...I keep balancing that we have Casillas, Cesc, Iniesta, Xavi, Villa and Torres all in great form with the undeinable fact that we implode on the big stage. Again.

It's our year for sure :hmm:

That is an absolutely mouth-watering lineup though. Even though Spain have looked good on paper in the past, I can't remember them ever looking quite as tasty as that. Then again everyone said that about Brazil and Argentina at the last world cup.

The euros tend to spawn more weird / flukey / one off winners than the world cup too. We shall see.

Midfield and strikers I reckon we have the best in Europe and a fair bit of depth when you look at Garcia, Tamudo, Alonso, Reyes etc. Keeper is class and we have Reina and Valdes on the bench

Defence is less certain...depends who he plays where but I'd expect Capdevila, Puyol and Ramos to be three of the four, possibly with Juanito or Arbeloa.

Oh yeah and we also have a certain 17 year old who looks okay

On paper Spain have the best players. but in practice they seem to be even psychologically weaker than the England, which really is saying something (as Fun Boy Three said).

Germany have got an easy first group and should sail thru to the knock outs without hassle feeling refreshed and ready for annihilating (whoops) the rest of Europe

Mine was Romania, but seeing the group they are in lol (Italy, France, Holland, Romania), i feel i might have to pick a new team for after the group stages :D

Ronaldo, Nani and Queiroz.

Portugal all the way!

Had a punt on them in the last two tournaments.

My wife is from an ex-soviet state (you can imagine the atmosphere that was around during the match).
Anyway it means so I'm probably going to get "encouraged" into supporting Russia....

I might go for Spain, purely for the fact that i'm meant to be learning Spanish next year. If they don't win it's a good excuse not too.

How about Sweden as a long shot? Much may depend on Ibrahimovic's form and fitness, but they've always produced solid technically-sound players.

Amo l'Italia!

I would say Forza Italia, but that's the name of Berlusconi's evil party.

Yeah but they're a perpetual quarter final/second round team. Just like England really.

England have very few technically-sound players though. Besides, long-shots have history in this competition, with Denmark 1992 and Greece 4 years ago.

I agree with your points. I'm just saying that sweden's mindset seems to be that getting to a certain point appears to be the limit of their ambitions.

Do you remember the last euros? They beat someone, bulgaria i think, 5-0 in the group and looked rather tasty, and then went out tamely in teh quarter finals with barely a whimper.

Yeah, I know. I guess I just wanted to appear clever by saying someone no-one else has. I watched Inter play Milan today and they definitely missed Ibrahimovic.
