they fuckin dance about, is a nightmare.

Yep, when I think about it, they trip you up even when you know they're a shadow. Confusing shifting shapes on the ground. I've stumbled around myself late at night, with no condition to make it worse. Me, button and bosky couldn't find our way back from some standing stones in Cornwall, completely disorientated and frightening.

surely those emotions were just caused by being stuck in the middle of nowhere with bosky though, dont matter if the suns out or not does it :D

Shadows, I hadn't thought of that.

No-one does until you're in that position. And festies are bad for it because of the way they tend to be lit so one minute you're blinded by the light and the next you're in pitch dark. For me the actual campsites are the worst, because I can either see what's directly in front of me within a foot or where i'm going but not both. So I have to move at a shuffle, or be guided by a fellow traveller, or just accept that i'm going to trip over guy ropes, tents, rubbish, lounging people etc. Bu for me it's enough to have a torch generally. But if it's raining even that's no good. Trying to navigate alone in the rain through a festival is impossible.

Well, I think Sunday was the first day in my life I've felt upstaged in the glamour stakes by my boyfriend! :D Although I remain shocked at how little decorum these young men have when sitting in mini-dresses.

Great time all round really. Despite the fact I didn't intentionally see a single band, I had a very happy and contented time. I'm of the opinion that whilst small festies might not have the big names, they are less tiring, and you can stick with your friends more (and feel less guilty about hanging around the camping areas!) It might not have been my best festival experiences in terms of emotional highs, but I think it was definitely the best for overall, consistent enjoyment.

Best thing was the atmosphere, particularly on the Sunday - I think I initiated more conversations with randoms in a three day period than ever before. And I really liked the bus being opened up to the public - had a great time there Friday night chatting with friends and randoms, watching the festival go on below. Thanks to everyone I spent time with and to the organisers for a wonderful weekend. :)

The one low point was punk karaoke only being on for one day this year, and me missing out on singing the song I wanted to do, or any others I could do. :( And then hearing songs which I could sing (and which weren't on the set list) being done anyway.

Also properly used my new SLR camera for the first time since being given it, so I'll put some photos up soon.

there's no way you could have outpunked me anyway so don't feel too bad

I'm not entirely sure if my enjoyment outweighed the effort - probably not if I'm honest. Although my problems were entirely of my own making, quite literally ;)

I would go again but on my own next time. And I can totally understand how lighting might have been an issue for anyone with visual impairment issues after dark.

I'm a bit sad we didn't dress up and that.

Btw, in terms of the lighting probs, personally I don't know why so many people put out their guy ropes during a weekend where the weather forcast suggests no rain and minimal wind. You don't need to have any perceptual difficulties to risk falling flat on your face over an invisible guy rope. In such circumstances, seems a bit inconsiderate to me, tbh. At least I saw a couple of people with tents do the plastic bag thing to mark them out.

for me I think the music wasn't my thing which is fine, some of the bands I liked, some I thought were shite but because there was no where in the main bit where you weren't in the line of the music (and all of the tents at once if you were sat in the middle) did my head in - there was no fucking escape anywhere :D

oh babe, if only we'd got our act together more, the kids area was very chilled and offered me a nice 'escape' on occasions....

Oh that's a shame :( I'd have been happy to foalsit if it would have helped.

I wish I'd met you - I was in there on my tod most of the time :(

Oh, I thought you had

No, that was my sensible dress. This was the fat slag dress I got :D

I think you were a bit busy ;)

That's why I'm keen to emphasise "reasonable" adjustments. If there's money for lighting in trees (going back to teep's original observation) maybe there's some room for diverting some of that tree lighting to some ground lighting. It probably wouldn't even cost more.

Or perhaps just write to the organisers first, explain her condition and ask if there were any well lit areas to camp in - like the vehicle field right next to the arena.

Expecting a tiny festival to invest in lighting for the entire camping area seems a little over the top. It's rather a shame you didn't go yourself as you'd have a better idea of the conditions there.
