I saw the queues they had a lot of the time, so avoided them (it was Welsh breakfasts for us in the arena every time anyway  ).

Were the same lot there last year (2008) as well as this? It was a different lot on campsite catering in 2007 as far as I remember ....

After the success of "take a small stove and go to the Scout Shop" last year, I must admit I didn't even worry about breakfast.

Mind you, waking up next to a fridge of ale kind of eliminated the need to worry about breakfast :D

Don't think it was the same lot. Different menu, vehicle and music. (hand woven veg -> greasy spoon, bus+tent full of chakras -> boxy van, meditation tinkles -> eclectic mix of dance)

A few suggested improvements for next year in the spirit of constructive criticism like ..... (I was very very happy with most stuff).

*Some improvements to the lighting at night
*At least one dedicated all-vegetarian stall
*More water points -- was that tap by the campsite toilets really the only one? (I never saw any in the arena, but perhaps that was my observation-failure  )
*There were enough toilets in the arena, queues were rare there, but all toilets could have done with more frequent cleaning.
*Newpapers in the shop on Sat and Sun mornings would have been nice!
*Yeah and the campsite catering/all night cafe does sound like the crew need a kick up the arse -- or to be replaced ......

I probably concur that the overall choice of entertainment and music needs to be broadened, personally I was happy :) but I think some extra and better cabaret and comedy etc would add to the choice, plus (if financially feasible), some more bands ...

Maybe an Offline tent as editor suggested, would fill some of those gaps at manageable cost.

following on from William's post:

* slightly more than 3 beers
* proper mash rationing
* better QA on the truffles
* Hobo Jones at a slightly more sensible time on Sunday

Genuinely surprised so many people are moaning about the music - I go to Endorse It because of the music (apart from Tarantism, obv).
Mind you, I'm pretty old and like 3 minute tunes that go '1 2 3 4... twanga-twanga-twanga-twanga' so I'm easily pleased there. The very idea of spending a weekend listening to punk, ska and Northern Soul fills me with glee! :)

Fuck comedy, cabaret and all that other nonsense - that's a dangerous step towards cunting 'burlesque' that all other festivals are cursed with.

easily the best EiiD i have been to: the sunniest, the funniest, the friendliest, the silliest.

I enjoyed a lot of the live stuff.. Inner Terrestials, Tofu Love Frogs, Subgiant, Zion Train, and a few others that i never learnt the name of to go against the grain somewhat, I thought Sham 69 were fantastic.. I had very low expections from them and was surprised by not bad they were.. guitarist was superb and was much more musical than i expected, conversely, i was looking forward to Dreadzone but felt like they were sleepwalking through their set at times.

However, there was no competition for best performance of the festival... WHO'S AFEARD on scrumpy sunday was the most fun, joyful and filthy act of the festival. kevicious was totally on fire, funnier than all those so-called comedians put together... even though most of the jokes went completely over my non-dorset head.

every year there are more ladies on ladies day and it really makes the day, boys make the effort to dress up and everyone in hysterics (hersterics?) at the sheer grotesque glamour of it all .. and then there was _pH_  +

the sunday day long drum'n'bass from the Asian Grub Foundation canteen was solid gold.. often annoying when the bands came on and they had to stop. likewise the sunday evening dance music in the main beer tent was a welcome break from ska, punk, and oldies.

other highlights include
  • beating the heat on sunday morning in the wonderful han&jan's paddling pool.. while being served organic cider with ice and meeting the purple virgins.
  • crispy wandering round in just his david lee roth tights,
  • iemanja and magneze's matching false eyelashes,
  • eastender, sleaterkinney & ldr in dresses.
  • pieminister pies
  • lots of free drugs
  • hippy crack
  • that dorset flag dress
  • bumping into my mate william for first time since EiiD'07

for such a small festival, was surprised not to didn't see as much of the urb crowd as we'd like; topcat, crustychick, trashy, wiskey, derv&respective offspring. i think EiiD missed out by not having a lounging around area in the wig on casino. but the bus and strummerville did a little to make up for it. as did the herculean efforts of "dj lee" :p & his support acts.. I reckon there might be a case for a small urban stage next year :hmm:

enjoyed camping with the gang at camp anything-but-sensible. as well as the journeys to and from london.

finally and most importantly thanks to flounder, pronghorn and all the many, many others who make it happen and keep it getting better and better. we will be back next year.

Great report bar your Sham 69/Dreadzone wrongness ....

Who's Afear'd were excellent, as were much of the Scrumpy Sunday afternoon bands in the Casino tent.

I am jealous that you saw the Inner Terrestrials. The one band I was very keen to see that I didn't .....

Quite right about the choice of sounds from Asian Grub Foundation  and some of the tunes from the main beer tent at various times kicked arse too.

Wish we'd spent more time at Wigon Casino late, but the odd times we were there there was a great variety of classics from yer DJ man ....

Bolded line : I don't think that was down to the organisers! ;)

Agree MOAR BEER! :D

But 49er and Old Thumper filled the spot nicely anyway :)

Not quite agreeing with your last two lines -- I think an Offline tent or something like it for comedy etc would avoid the worst risks ;) and it would have a few bands too.

But I see exactly where you're coming from with the rest! :D

Completely agree with this^^

Spot on.

I just don't see why any festival should be expected to be 'all things to all men'. That's why they're all so same-ish these days. EndorseIt is great because it has a different character, and it would be a shame if it lost it by trying to pander to the taste of everyone.

(not commenting on Offline at all here, of course)

What cider was it?

Four different kinds of scrumpies by Sunday, two of them were Thatchers Classic (?) and Cheddar Valley. Can't remember the other two which were there from the start, but there was 1 apple and 1 pear cider. Plus Stowford Press for those more into standard cider, and canned Scrumpy Jack available in the bus bar ....

Offline line at Endorse-it would be the icing on the cake.

But I still don't think there's any need to change the music, Endorse-it is what it is, and I really like it how the promote local talent.

If you want a big comercial festival with big names there's plenty of those around.

Fair enough! :)

No Strongbow Super?!

Seriously, that's good going. Stowford Press is a great option 'for those more into standard ciders'. They've just replaced it with bloody Magners in the County Ground Hotel- not impressed!

Seconded! My feelings exactly! Except for the bit about being old :p

If they had big name acts it'd probably push the prices up and attract too many punters. I like the fact that it's quite a small & cosy affair!

I agree, and I didn't see one band :D

I like endorse it because it's small, friendly and lots of my mates go. the fact that I don't go for the music means that I come home not feeling like I've missed out on everything because i've been having such a lovely time chatting and camping. I would have been a bit more into seeing stuff this year if it hadn't been for my back hurting so much - but it was ok, I just partied back at camp.

I'll be back next year.

the horse box cafe was funny, but I'm glad I wasn't relying on them for food!

I have to agree on Hobo Jones timing. You really do have to be good and drunk to fully appreciate the quality of this band ;) and need to put in a lot of work to get that many down by 11am, please have pity. :D

Damn straight! - and it's mad to expect all the trimmings and comforts of a mega-commercial festival. It can be a bit rough and ready at the edges, but I appreciate its non-corporate stance and the accent on local talent. How many other festivals have a town crier introducing the bands? :) (his son ran the small tent by Strummerville too).

And thank fuck we didn't get this kind of bollocks:
Streaming Karaoke service and bar chain Lucky Voice entertained over 5,000 people in a big field over the weekend at the Big Chill festival.

Lucky Voice projected lyrics onto one of the stages after a set from Norman Jay, and took requests via Twitter and a dedicated website. Songs involved included Video Killed The Radio Star, It's Not Unusual and (I Wanna Be) 500 Miles.
