Have recently discovered the concept of 'ecopsychology' or 'psychoecology' on the Icarus site.

Briefly 'the political and practical implications are to show humans ways of healing alienation and to build a sane society and a sustainable culture'.

Its is partly about learning from aboriginal cultures and nurturing a sense of connection with nature.

Well it does suit your spiritualistic outlook on life. Sad reality is that the real world is a lot lot more distant than "if everyone hugged a tree we'll be fine" attitude.

I don't think you can reduce it all to hugging trees

Wikipedia said:
According to biologist E. O. Wilson, human beings have an innate latent instinct to emotionally connect to nature, called the biophilic instinct, particularly aspects of nature that reflect our Environment of Evolutionary Adaptiveness

Biophile

Edward Wilson will be remembered as one of the great naturalists and biologists of the twentieth century, alongside Ernst Mayr, George C. Williams and Bill Hamilton.

His book Biophilia is well worth reading.

What butchers said, and also, Arne Næss. Much much better than Roszak. Which isn't to say he's great, but at least the man was a decent philosopher. Roszak is merely a mediocre pop-psychologist.

Read some Vygotsky, U. Bronfenbrenner, Irwin Altman, the Kaplans, Amos Rapoport if you wanna learn about psychology in an ecological context. Better yet read some Gregory Bateson.
