Eat Out to Help Out Scheme (Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays)

Badgers

Mr Big Shrimp!
R.I.P.
Starts 03rd of August
Anyone made a booking or plans yet?

The discount can be applied to food and/or non-alcoholic drink purchased for immediate consumption on premises, up to a maximum discount of £10 per diner (inclusive of VAT).

This includes soft drinks and/or packaged snacks, as long as they are for immediate consumption on the premises.

There is no minimum spend requirement.

Looks like a fairly big uptake from the hospitality industry. Although not how many of these 32k are big chains :hmm:

Typical of the government to coincide this with their new 'tough on obesity' campaign  especially with McDonald's and such all signed up.

I did note that if you want to order to eat in then leave with a doggy bag after being served that is fine.

I've never really been one to 'go out' to eat anyway - if I'm not eating at home it's usually a Tesco meal deal on the way to/from something else - and I'm still unconvinced about the safety of it all these days, so I probably won't.

Will certainly be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

Sounds like it's up to the individual establishments, so might be a case of investigating the individual places you might want to support.

That said, I'm sure some enterprising sort will start up a list at some point, whether it's crowdsourced or their own. People tend to be (a bit) more conscious about where they spend their money these days.

Yeh I would prefer to help independent restaurants than wealthy chains, so if it helps mcds and pizza express or pizza hut but not single or small groups of restaurants you can count me out

Yeah.

I found this site but as you can see, it's all chains. Their main page where you can search doesn't actually show you restaurants in your area participating.is rubbish. I put Bristol in, where it says, where do you want to eat. The only result coming back is a restaurant with Bristol in it's name.

Well I'd only be going out to eat early week because of this scheme. SO that would determine if and where.

Yes, the finder tool will be launched soon.

31st of July, apparently.

Being on the edge of town, my postcode only brings up 12 places, using a town centre postcode it brings up an impressive list of 75, all seem to be independents, small groups and a couple of franchises. There's a separate link for large chains.

There are a fair amount of independent places in my yard.
I rarely eat out these days but will see if there is anything going in some of the places I have considered before.
Get the feeling they will be busy (at first anyway) and I am not that excited but if there are any quiet nights might have a cheeky taxpayer funded curry ;)

ETA - correction it's already up:

But, it only lists places within 2 miles of your postcode.
Hmm. I really fancy a meal out at:

DTP Acquisition 2 Mailbox (UK) Limited
x.xx miles away

Queen Court 9-17, Eastern Road, Greater London, RM1 3NG

:hmm:

Nothing dodgy going on there at all (the address is also listed as two hotels but I walk up that road regularly and there's nowhere to eat there).

Have also just found out that my local (poor quality, shitcake serving) FEB caff is owned by a company called 'Negro Ltd.'

  • Wow
Reactions: Sue
Do you have to eat in? Mrs maomao is dying for a KFC but isn't up to indoor restaurants yet and have just found out there's one less than 2 miles away.

Sounds like as far as the government are concerned, take away isn't covered:
Expenditure that is ineligible for the discount
The discount cannot be applied to the following items:
  • alcoholic drinks
  • tobacco products
  • food or drink that is to be consumed off premises
  • food or drink that is sold as part of a private party, event or function taking place within an eligible establishment

100 participating restaurants within 2 miles of my postcode. I'd have to do my homework first to see how the tables are laid out, if I was tempted to use the scheme.

Could maybe cheat it a bit? Order in, and then very quickly decide "I want to go home" and take your food with you? Wouldn't imagine many places will stop you at the door.
I've got a picnic basket that will be perfect. Might have to take one of the kids to get more than one tenner off.

It seems to have just added just about every food place in the area, quite a few of which are still closed so I'm wondering if they've just automatically added them all.

Certainly not here, there's more than 75 places to eat in Worthing town centre.

They haven't added them all around my way, my favourite Indian is not part of the scheme. I think it's probably space concerns, can't think why they wouldn't join otherwise.

Don’t think so. I’d say it’s less than half of the restaurants in Crystal Palace.
