Dulwich vs Concord Rangers 25/4/23

I also thought yesterday was particularly noisy. The Rabble has really grown this season, and it's a real credit to the people who've put in the effort and tried to get more involved in the singing.

Anyone who wants to make a bit of noise and support the team, your vocal chords will be extremely welcome behind the goal on Saturday!
It was great last night, but the crowd was embarrassingly quiet the week before at Taunton. It's a strange thing to say but it seems that smaller crowds can often out-sing capacity crowds.

It's all down to the whether you're competing with 2000-odd people chatting, and what the ratio is, I'm increasingly convinced of it. From stood right behind the goal, the noise always seems pretty consistent. It's only when you go for a wonder you twig it can sound totally different match-to-match.

I think you've got a point. The good thing is, more and more of those people coming for a chat are turning into people who are coming for the football. We've gone from about 1,000 football watchers to 2,000 in a couple of years, it's a promising trajectory.

All the more reason for as many people as possible to get behind the goal on Saturday and make some noise!

One thing that struck me as odd: the Concord player who had earlier been booked for some outrageous diving committed a foul right at the end. And instead of booking him and sending him off, the ref called full time.

No wonder he was smiling.

It's not that unusual to see a referee conveniently blow the full or half time whistle to avoid having to make a call like that. I see it several times each season. It would have given us one last chance to "stick it in the mixer" from inside our own half, but any suspension wouldn't have commenced until next Tuesday and therefore would have carried over to the start of next season, so no benefit to us in Concord missing their most experienced forward in key fixtures.

Porter could have perhaps reacted a little quicker, but ultimately I think it was largely a fantastic last ditch tackle. Fine margins.

I've been hoping Dover go down since their owner's q and a, but now in awful position of hoping they beat Weymouth (and Concord don't pick up maximum points). I really can't see us scoring against Chippenham, unless we get a pen or get lucky. "We're not creative enough, and we're not positive enough."
Positivity in play but also positivity in terms of attitude. There was some serious moaning at colleagues last night. That cannot be encouraging especially to the younger or more "peripheral" team mates. One of the chief moaners will be suspended on Saturday but the other one will doubtless play.

I don't think Concord will get 6 points from their last two games given the opposition. 3 points maybe 4. They have a much poorer goal difference. Weymouth need to win and their goal difference is worse by 6. After Thursday night we will know if Concord are relegated of if we need to draw or win against Chippenham. Our form is so poor lately I am hoping we won't need to win.

Weymouth know if they beat Dover then they stay up. But that would mean Dover have lost and so we would leapfrog them with a point.

Realistically Concord need 6 points to stay up. Their GD is pants. Even a draw on Thursday probably dooms them.

I think a point probably gets us over the line.

Picolatas!

Maybe that's why the referee didn't see that defender bring down Lawless in the box? I can't stand grey kits, or all black. They look dreadful, especially under lights, and there was no need for it when Concord normally play in yellow. It still wasn't as bad as the Slough kit, which features several different shades of grey.

How exactly did that Mills shot not go in. Did Porter not follow up quickly enough? Did he look offside? Was it just bad luck with great defending? I'll certainly be interested to see that on video.
shorts and socks are blue though, very risky turning up with blue when the home sides are blue especially with some of these officials 😉

Chippenhams away record is only marginally better than ours, which is really saying something! They have 2 more draws than defeats but only won 4 out of 22.

I feel we can get a draw, I’m just hoping that’ll be enough. Concord will do well to beat Eastbourne away, irrespective of Thursday.

Gotta feel positive!

Weymouth can still go down with a win (and take Dover with them) if we get a point and Concord win twice. Every combination of any 2 from 4 to go down (or stay up) remains possible, at least until the end of Thursday evening.

Maximum points achievable by each team is Dover/Dulwich 51, Concord 50, Weymouth 48, but Dover and Weymouth can't both achieve their maximum.

There is the scenario that if we lose and Weymouth win not only can we get relegated but it could be by the slender margin of goal difference 😱

any chance Haile could be available for Saturday?
I know baleboy_93 mentioned Haile was still in the squad a few weeks back, but whilst the other players who haven't been playing have been at the ground on match days, not sure we've seen him.

That said, it would be some incredible alignment of the heavens if he were to score the goal that kept us up.

Big crowds mean naff all if we're playing like shite. We don't have a divine right for success based on attendance figures.

Yeah Nebay is still with us and has been a really good professional, has continued to train well and I know Hakan and Terry rather like him. The way I've looked at it is similar to Jayden at Gillingham, we have had to go with tried and tested bodies at this level to try and ensure we survive, and then Nebay, and possibly Cameron too, could have got minutes once we were safe where there isn't the same pressure. Having said that, with Porter and Crichlow not available on Saturday, he could always end up in the squad for this one, who knows! Must also say that I really like him too, a very polite young man who was so excited to be joining us.

What's the craic with Phillips, baleboy_93? Is he injured, or in contention for Saturday?
