Dropping in bits already

Glue a 6" x 6" piece of wood to the wall and put the screws into that.
Thanks - but no screws will stay in - it's the kind of plaster that has hair in it, and is very old and fragile. One day I will get it replastered and the taller person can put his feet up.

Ceiling drying rack is the way to go. Except ours doesn't go up and down because the cleat hook you're supposed to wrap the rope round won't stay screwed into the crap plaster. It stays aloft permanently and I have to keep a tall person in the house for laundry hanging duties.
There was a ceiling drying rack here, I asked the people I bought the house from if they’d sell it but they took it with them. They left the fixings in the wall at least so I could potentially fit another one but not very good on ladders and don’t like going up them when home alone.

Like farmerbarleymow I use a tumble dryer in the winter, in the summer I use a wall mounted rotary line.

Ah, I was assuming standard plasterboard.
