Donald Trump, the road that might not lead to the White House!

Someone who's still seen as a "maverick" but not quite so much of an extremist. Jesse Ventura? What happened to him?

He did a conspiracy theory tv program for a few years until 2012. A few months ago he expressed a hope that Trump destroys the GOP and that Sanders destroys the Democrats. He said he was up for being Trumps VP, but I'm fairly sure he won't join the Republican party so its not going to happen - hell in November he spoke of being the Libertarian party presidential candidate without actually joining their party either, as if any political party is really likely to go for that.

As best I can tell Ventura still has a fairly unconventional mix of political beliefs - e.g. he praises Trump for some things, but did criticise Trump for calling Bernie a communist, and then started going on about why a certain level of socialism is needed, in conjunction with capitalism.

Some not terribly detailed sources for the above:

Jesse Ventura Hopes Bernie Sanders, Trump Destroy the Dems and GOP for Good

Jesse Ventura plans to ‘out-Trump Trump’ and betray the Libertarians — all the way to the White House

Palin will not be his pick for vp

His choosing VP is the one thing to look forward to: hopefully a reality format where a bunch of washed up politicians compete in teams on tasks like sorting out the Middle East peace process, scheduling payments on $1.8 trillion of debt etc, with Trump firing one each week, until a VP is chosen.

Is it remotely possible he would choose someone outside politics? So you'd have two outsiders on the slate, or wouldn't voters tolerate that? It seems US citizens hold politicians in scarcely more esteem than we do this side of the pond.

Possibly Rubio.

It could be difficult for Trump to maintain credibility with his followers if he chose one of the other candidates, who he's been savaging so mercilessly. In the early going, Trump was dissing Rubio for excessive sweating; later he ran attack ads against Rubio, saying 'Don't hire a boy to do a man's job.'

Palin is not a mainstream republican

Maybe a poor choice of word: the only well-known and high-profile Republican to endorse him.

You're right that she isn't mainstream: which is why she might be contemplated as a running mate, and why she would probably be acceptable to the type of person who supports Trump.

I suppose she'd be a useful lookout, being able to the missiles from her window, as they come flying in from Russia.

Personally, I think the idea of someone choosing Palin as a potential VP is too ridiculous to contemplate: but I thought the idea of Donald Trump running for president - and doing well in the contest, was also too ridiculous to contemplate.

It also looks like he didn't like what Trump said about Mexicans

I wouldn't rule out Trump running a very different campaign for the presidency than he did for the primary, while still running as an outsider who outlandishly insults his opponent. Obviously his racism and extremist positions on immigration would make it difficult for many moderates to join him as VP but in other areas like healthcare and social security he is far more moderate than many other Republicans. And although he insults people he has always insisted he can work with people with different views, so picking a moderate might make sense for him/

IMO he's more likely to pick a GOP establishment insider, if only to bring that power bloc "on-side". Perhaps Jeb, perhaps even Carson (for the liberal right vote).

Fucking hell American Elections are just dumb.

The Iowa caucuses account for 1% of the delegates who go to the conventions.

1 PERCENTAGE. ARE YOU FUCKING SHITTING ME?

So why does it fucking matter?

it doesn't, really. You have a clump of them, then the ones with no chance call it a day, and the ones who were supposed to have no chance get a boost if they did ok. But it'll be a while before anything meaningful can be determined, but in the mean time media has got to keep filling the gaps between the adverts

Can't they slide in some Meerkat adverts? Much more interesting and with a better grip on politics than Trump ;)
