Donald Trump - MAGAtwat news and discussion

[thread detail]I mean, the UK government stripped British-born Shamima Begum of her British citizenship and left her stateless, which iirc is illegal under international law, so it's not like there aren't any international precedents.[/thread derail]

I didn't agree with that, either!

I have a Kurdish friend who was a Turkish citizen. She was granted asylum in the UK, and the Turkish government refused to issue her with a new passport when her old one expired, simply stating in the letter "We have no knowledge of this person". She's got UK citizenship now.

Apparently pissed off Kiwis by claiming Americans split the atom in his inauguration speech:
Liked the quote:
And while headed up by a Kiwi, the team that did it was based in Manchester. So it's also kinda ours.

It does name two British scientists (whose names I have forgotten already ETA looking back one English and one Irish actually) in the article that it says are accepted as having done the split by most US institutions.

Splitting the atom is nothing to be proud of.

Now put it back together dickheads.

About $3bn last year, down from $20-30bn annually before the war.

Says it here too:

Trump threatens Russia, others with tariffs if Ukraine deal not reached
The Biden administration had already heaped heavy sanctions on thousands of entities in Russia's banking, defense, manufacturing, energy, technology and other sectors since the conflict began in February 2022.
Earlier this month, the U.S. Treasury hit Russia's energy revenues with its hardest sanctions yet, targeting oil and gas producers Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegas, as well as 183 vessels that are part of the so-called dark fleet of tankers aimed at evading other Western trade curbs.
Trump has sought to use the threat of tariffs to achieve non-trade goals, including threatening Mexico, Canada and China with duties to push them to stop illegal migration and the flow of the deadly opioid fentanyl into the United States.
Those three countries are the top U.S. trading partners. But Russia is far down the list, with U.S. imports from Russia falling to just $2.9 billion through the first 11 months of 2024 from $29.6 billion in 2021.
Maybe the "other participating countries" is a new tack.

Those who are rightfully upset at Trump’s stance regarding grabbing migrants off the street, detaining them with precious little ceremony and then deporting them without warning should probably acquaint themselves with the UK’s own actions doing the exact same thing.

Damn right you should be angry about it.

Incidentally :

Im a little confused by the advice on not letting them in.
I always assumed perhaps completely mistakenly that these raids usually happened at work places where suspected Illegal immigrants are employed

Ok. Let’s get some things straight. We are all born on one planet. The fact that anyone here is illegal is ridiculous.
We are in space and no one knows what the fuck is going on.
No one is illegal.

I love you
They've upped the stakes on that score. Trumpist guy quoted upthread spoke of criminal aliens. To be without papers is to be a criminal.

Great news for Musk and his ket supply!

Donald Trump has granted a “full and unconditional” pardon to Ross Ulbricht, the founder of the illegal online drug marketplace the Silk Road.

Ulbricht has been incarcerated since 2013 and was sentenced to life in prison in 2015 for running the underground market where drug dealers and others conducted more than $200m in illicit trade using the cryptocurrency bitcoin. Trump said he had called Ulbricht’s mother to tell her he would pardon her son “in honor of her and the Libertarian Movement, which supported me so strongly”.

“The scum that worked to convict him were some of the same lunatics who were involved in the modern day weaponization of government against me. He was given two life sentences, plus 40 years. Ridiculous,” the president said in a Truth Social post.

The move drew praise from the Libertarian party, which has advocated for drug legalization, and has long pushed for Ulbricht’s release, calling the case an example of government overreach. Trump had announced plans to commute Ulbricht’s sentence in May during a speech at the Libertarian national convention.

“Ross Ulbricht has been a libertarian political prisoner for more than a decade. I’m proud to say that saving his life has been one of our top priorities and that has finally paid off,” said Angela McArdle, the chair of the Libertarian National Committee.
