Are you a hoarder or can't you stand living with junk around you - poll to follow.

Personally I live with clutter for a bit then I start to get all irrational about it and have a mass clearout.

I'm worse for paperwork I suddenly realise I've half a forest worth and then I chuck it out.

I'm almost obsessively minimalist - if I haven't used anything for the last ten minutes I start wanting to throw it out.

hate clutter...

I even have a filing cabinet and I'm constantly putting shelves up... (well, not anymore, cause I don't like too many shelves either)

Basically, everything has its place in my little world.

(The filing cabinet was probably as a consequence of working as office admin many years ago)

My immediate family are terrible hoarders. There's stuff piled up in my old dears' house from way before I moved out, so it's in my blood, but I do really really try to live the minimalist life.

I can't ever bring myself to throw away magazines though, even topical weeklies :(

Terrible hoarder. Moving house is a pain in the arse and I can't bear to get rid of most of my things.

I'm a terrible hoarder, drowning under a wave of rubbish that I can't throw away.

I hoard for a while then get pissed off and clear out all the crap.
I'm SO looking forward to being a little more settled and being able to do stuff like put up shelves and have filing cabinets so that everything's got its own place :)

I'm a chronic hoarder but have HAD to throw out stuff because my flat's so small. The minute I declutter, I realise I could have found a use for something I just chucked out :(

i don't mind a bit of clutter, but when i'm tidying (doesn't happen often) i can be completely ruthless

i live with a hoarder - a whole room and a massive cupboard are full of his junk. it's a never-ending source of friction. i get pretty tired of his shit lying around unused, gathering dust. he tells me he'll get rid of it when we move - yeah right - it'll all end up back in his gran's old garage, reunited with his drum kit and assorted other crap and gradually creep back to wherever we move to

<tries to calm down>

When I moved to London I threw out about six black bin liner fulls of flyers, receipts, ticket stubs, posters, stickers, adverts, business cards, colour swatches, stencils and all sorts.

I also really like finding things and keeping them. I found a cigar tube tother day and I am keeping it to keep my spliffs in. It is silver.

I don't have enough space to hoard very much - no cupboards or shelves, if it won't fit in a draw or go under the bed, it's binned.

And I'm not sentimental, b'day cards and the like usually last a day before they start getting on my nerves and get fed to Mr Bin.

:D :D

I know the feeling!

What's really funny it's that whenever I go to my bf's and I get a bit bored I end up tidying up his kitchen cupboards, or the table, and once I even sorted out his records... A couple of weeks later everything was all over the place again and it broke my little heart into pieces ;) I'm a natural tidy-upper, I enjoy doing it.

bit of a hoarder, and not a tidy one, piles of books, magazines, etc tidying up is mainly making the piles a bit tidier

I'm an incredibly messy minimalist.

(This is an exaggeration on both counts).

The only things I really own (apart from a TV and essential furniture: desk & shelves) at the current time are CDs, books* and clothes**. Most of which are second-hand so I could easily tip them into a bin bag for a charity shop if this became necessary. At the present time it isn't, as I have a bedroom but if say I wanted to move, it would be fine because I'm not attached to any material junk.

I chuckled a few weeks back when I was at my parents' place. I assumed they'd chucked all of my stuff out - I didn't take much when I left home - and was rumaging around in a huge cupboard, as they'd chucked my toaster in there  and I needed it. I noticed bags and bags of old books*** from my childhood and teenage years which for some strange reason they'd kept. They'll never read them again and I sure as hell wont, so why do old people always seem to keep all this crap!? Nice little trip down memory lane for me though I guess.

*about thirty of these are BA's too - who is even less attached to material goods than I am.
**way less than a lot of people too.
*** also second-hand for the most part

ok - In my defence, I moved into my studio flat from a two bedroomed abode.

Additionally, this is by far the most cluttered corner.

but, umm - this is my flat:

You're worse than me :D

I'm a terrible hoarder. Twice in a mass clear out to try and rid myself of my hoarding tendencies I've thrown away plane tickets (I managed to dig one lot out the wheelie bin but the others were gone forever).

I think this is a very valid reason to never throw anything away ever again

Lucky you - I can't even throw them away 10 years after I've been on the trip  @ self
I have concert and football tickets dating back to the 70s which are of no use to anyone, but I can't bring myself to get rid.

I'm usually a terrible horder but recently realised (because I've been spending so much time at the b/f's house with only my clothes in ONE drawer) that I really should do away for all the crap I lug round with me!

One thing I didnt keep though....all my uni work and notes! Absolutley kicking myself now!

It's not that lucky when you throw them away before you've actually been anywhere. And it didn't make you too popular with the bf ...

Oh dear! I didn't read your post properly
You're right - never throw anything away again :D

Correction: Never entrust anything of value to a burd, they're just not up to the job.

<Wearily lugs herself from under a pile of crap, bits of feathers, receipts, chewing gum wrappers and bus tickets sticking out of her hair>

...Aye I'm a hoarder too. I remember when we got burgled as a young un and the police said, "ooh terrible thing they did to that young girl's room." And my dad had to explain that there was always a foot of clothes paper and random bits of crap covering the carpet

I'm trying to eBay my massive wardrobe but its soo boring.

Hoarder and proud.

So proud that I display my belongs in the centre of my room, in a big pile. Books, clothes, electrical equipment, cds, dvds, magazines, cables, fluff, documents, car parts, bits'n'bobs that i don't quite know where they come from but won't throw out because they probably make something work.

I know where everything is too, its in the pile. Somewhere.

When I move I do throw lots of stuff away, but within weeks order is restored

Pixie-iso - yeah, I got burgled a few years ago and had to explain to the cops that that was how it was before too.
