Do we buy a second hand Dyson or a cheaper new vacuum cleaner?

Re: Henry and bags.
They do come with a bag, but I was assured by a professional user that you don't need the bag.
Consequently I haven't used a bag in mine in the last 10 years.

Dyson is the brand I see abandoned in the street most often. :D

Although I love my Dyson handheld.

This thread has turned into the Miele vs Dyson vs Henry one like all the other hoover threads :D

(((LIZZIELOO)))

Dyson sucks !!

Seriously, I know of an industrial sucking application where they licenced Dyson's sucking method and applied it in industry.

lizzieloo you definitely need a hoover with a rotating brush to shift dog hair. My henry is ok but every so often I borrow my mum's Vorwerk and the difference it makes is amazing.

ETA: ....well, so my cleaner tells me ;)

we've got a dyson and a cat and dog miele, miele shits all over the dyson can't you get a second hand miele on ebay? seem to be several going for about 100?

FWIW I've got one of the old Dyson uprights. A DC4 IIRC. Bought it in a sale. The plastic parts on the handle are a little fragile but still working fine 10 years later. Used once / twice a week. Not that I'd attempt it myself but there are videos online showing you how to replace the motor.

This looks like just the ticket. My mum's got the non "pet" model that's a bit cheaper & it's an absolute joy to use.

You see, that's why we buy uprights, instead of scrubbing at the floor the brush does it for you.

You don't have a fucking cleaner, you wish :D

Had a Henry that coped pretty will with a ludicrously hairy dog. In the end I needed a lighter-weight one because of neck/shoulder problems made worse by lugging it around - but still managed to sell it in reasonable condition after more than 10 years' heavy use.

I'd get a free one from Freecycle. Last time I was active on the Lambeth site vacuum cleaners would come up quite often. People often give away really nice stuff. You do need to be quick off the mark though. I used a Firefox add-on called AlertBox which refreshed the listings every 2 minutes and rang a bell whenever there was something new. I got some amazing things.

Ive had a Dyson and two Henrys. The dyson was far too fiddly in it's construction, too many flimsy plastic parts but it worked well as a vacuum.
The Henrys are very simple, are easy to repair (motor bushes) and yes you can run them without bags but you get dust particles back into the air.
Now, I'd buy another Henry but dont expect to for another ten years.

Dyson's are shit. Henry's are ace and can be used bagless but probably not ideal if you have much deepish pile carpet. The one Frances Lengel put up looks like a very good deal.

what a lot of non-henry users dont realise is that henry has a little button on the top of him and you press it and it goes into turbo suction mode. put it this way, i am weary of using it around my 15month yo as i know if her fingers got caught in it, that suction we're talking about would snap her fingers like breaking breadsticks. that's how powerful we're talking.
