Djay for Mac/iPad

With the USB dock adapter, any standard USB audio interface will work with the ipad. Many midi controllers too.

I assume the ipad 2 still doesn't have USB? If you could use an external audio interface with it all these exciting music apps would be great, but if you're still running everything out of a shitty minijack then it's hard to see it's potential beyond having fun at home. Bit annoying really as some of these apps do look great.

if you have the camera connection kit, you can plug in any usb class compliant soundcard and get a stereo in and out for the ipad1 and ipad 2.

Playing with it now, it's great. Can't really see why you'd bother using anything else to DJ with, it's a remarkably capable bit of software.

Lack of physical feedback is still an issue, IMO. Fingers on knobs do have benefits.

It is now possible to have 2 true stereo outs from an ipad DJ app, running into a hardware mixer, providing you have the right audio interface and app - specifically Native Instruments Traktor DJ app and the Audio 6 or 10 soundcard. I don't think anyone has got it to work outside those constraints (yet). I love the Traktor DJ app but as I already own an Audio 8 soundcard for using with the full traktor scratch program, I'm not prepared to buy the more recent Audio 10 just to get ipad compatibility... bit of a pisstake really :(

It's bizarre - if NI can do it, there's no reason why someone else couldn't offer something similar (and cheaper), only opened up to work with other apps too... guess it's just a matter of time?

TRAKTOR DJ works with Apple's Core Audio framework on the iPad to stream audio to compatible audio interfaces. iOS version 6 is required for this. If supported by the audio interface, this allows for seperate stereo channels for both the Master and Cue / Monitoring outputs. This way you can pre-listen to your tracks in stereo independently of the Master output.

Looks pretty sweet as far as ipad Dj apps go. I'm still not sure how comfortable I'd feel about playing out live with it in a dark and sweaty venue using just this though. There's something more comfortable about CDJs with their big deck platter and large hardware buttons/pitch shift. The compromise is always the finicky nature of ipads and finger gestures to do shit and the size it all has to be squeezed down to.

It's really disconcerting watching DJs who spend too much time squinting at a screen, whether ipad or laptop.

When I have to use serato I try and limit all any of that business to solely dragging a tune in, then everything else to pure mixer/decks skillz.

I play out using this sometimes. It's not as good as cdjs for mixing because its not tactile. It is Brilliant for slowly selecting tunes for playing and carrying around. Just upgraded to V2 :)
