Oh god, yes. I’m not in favour of this idea that someone was wrong once 25 years ago so that means they’re a Wrong person and to be disregarded about everything for ever more. I’m glad there was no social media when I was 14.

I'm not sure it's as obvious as you seem to think - and besides, it's surely the responsibility of the author to check the content, not the Observer.

I'm not a journalist but I'd want to check that what I was printing was an accurate reflection of someone's views especially if printing something obviously contentious.

She's certainly prone to clunky and foolish behaviour, this email included. But I'm extremely suspicious of the sheer level of spite that's flung her way given the rest of the shower of shite that makes up the modern party. She does at least seem to care just a little bit about people in actual need. I mean the shadow work and pensions secretary, on the same day she's been suspended for this, was busily disinterring the old terrorist migrants line.

This, however Abbott's letter is staggeringly stupid.

When I write a first draft it usually says what I want to say, but in a manner that sees me get sacked, or sued for libel.

Subsequent drafts are about not getting me sacked - not changing what I want to say with a complete volte face.

As ever with the Corbynites, they learn nothing. Despite everything that transpired during and since the Corbyn years and their problems (downfall?) with anti-Semitism, at no point did Abbott think 'hmm.. Jews and anti-Semitism - better be a bit careful with this one...'.
