Derry Girls

Brilliant episode tonight, arguably best of S3 for me :D

As an aside general observation about the fantastic soundtrack throughout the entire three seasons, how can they afford the copyright licences for so many best selling classics? One often comes across plenty of lower budget yet popular comedy or children’s cartoon shows that seemly can’t afford to pay for even ten seconds of a classic tune/ song for a comedic scene- say the likes of the James Bond, Mission Impossible, Star Wars themes, or similar.

Yet this shows features snippets of easily 8+ absolute classics from the 80s in every single episode. Do the producers have very deep pockets, or is it a case of some studios/ artists demanding far too high fees for certain iconic tunes?

90s, for the most part. I guess they've just chosen to pay, because it wouldn't work well without them. It's usually only one song per episode anyway.

There are easily 8+ songs played in every episode, even if for no longer than ten odd seconds. Plenty of shows can’t even afford a single ten-second clip of an iconic soundtrack or song.

Must attempt again to watch......didn't make it to the first lot of adverts.....fell asleep......post a 12 hour shift, was late off and didn't get home till 22.00....

You're welcome!
Some good tunes there.
I've yet to watch the new series.
I'm going to start from the beginning as I only use to dip in and out of the show.
But always enjoyed the ones I did view.
So that's my work day planned for tomorrow :)

I am enjoying the current / last 😥 series.

Fantastic music.. brings back instant memories. Funny how music does that.
I'm back sat in my very first 4th hand green toyota starlet with a tape playing REM belting out and driving up to Galway.

Its mad !!!! Innit?? 😁😁

It's definitely nostalgic for those of us who were about the same age as the lead characters during the 90s. They played White Town's Your Woman twice last week.

Oh, and worth stating that there's a regular half hour episode next Tuesday, and then an hour long special finale on Wednesday. Unsurprisingly the Good Friday Agreement is likely to play a part in the latter.

Good, and fair play to McGee for doing a whole episode with only briefest appearances for Erin and Orla, and so sign whatsoever of Claire, Michelle and James. For such a character-based show that's quite bold.

Yes, but they were though, weren’t they? ;)

Last night's episode was bang on. Laughter and tears a plenty. If tonights is of a similar standard then this is how you end a show, sheer perfection.

I'm kinda hoping for a rapprochement between Joe and Gerry tonight. :D

That would be an excellent way to end their respective roles. A moment that brings the two together, followed by one final "fuck off Gerry!" just to show that the abuse was actually affection and acceptance in the family all along.

I haven't loved a comedy this much since Black Books. There's not a duff episode and last night's was the usual excellent blend of comedy and tragedy, total absurdity and rough-natured affection.

Everyone remembers being "stacked" in a way too small car, right? We once fit 9 people in a Fiesta, one of whom was in the boot and took a mobile call while in there, so we could all hear her, in the strongest Aussie accent possible, saying "call me back later mate, I'm in a car boot!"

I haven’t got as far as reading it yet, but today’s i newspaper has an interview with Jamie-Lee O’Donnell if anyone is interested.
