Craft club PYO and preserve making

The earliest I could be in Brixton if I work that day would be around 6pm, but I'm happy to book the day off if required, in fact, I would be happy to get there early eveningish for a stroll and then pub. Only if our chauffeurs* - thank you, Han, thank you, Crustychick- and most people couldn't make it early anyway, I needn't bother.

* Having said that, as Eme said I wouldn't mind getting the train down with someone if it's getting too tight in the cars.

I'm completely giddy with excitement about the summer and there are mad bubbles of happiness bubbling away in my chest.

What a lovely description :) .... I feel the same, this summer seems so full of promise!

I'll be in my new job which I haven't yet started - I know that we can finish work at 4.30pm on Fridays, but it's near Kingston, so realistically couldn't get to Brixton until 5.30pm - will have to suss out when I start whether it is possible to leave early, but I won't know for another 3 weeks or so. I'm happy to make my own way there though, if I can get directions, I'll just jump on a train - I don't want to hold everyone else up.

Countryside ... Jam.... YAY!!!! :)

There's now 10 of us!! Innit is coming too. :) So the final countdown is:

gaijingirl
pieeye
eme
ms t
crustychick
zora
Han
Jan
wrysmile
Innit

Closer to the time we'll need to think about getting some very large pans. When we did the marmalade we used two pretty large pans and made a good lot, but I think we will be making much more this time around given our numbers.

Maybe we should look into getting those mahoosive cheap pans you see down the market? - the ones that look like they cook enough for 30 people! Or are they rubbish?

I'd be up for investing in one of those anyway - they probably are a bit shite but we're making jam not cordon bluergh so I reckon they'd probably do :)

You'll be well and truly missed, Choc!

I leave the pan decision to our head marmalade/jam chefs; but must remember to start saving those jars!

I paid the final bill on the bunkhouse a couple of days ago and i have been collecting jars like a nutter. Got quite a few now! :D

I might put a post up in the recycling thread .... asking people to start collecting!

Didn't Eme save a jar of marmalade for our next trip too?

I have been collecting for a few weeks now. I shall count up tonight and report back.

I still plan on FOOL though :)

Can we talk logistics of getting there some more? :)

I booked friday off work so could set off any time friday with whoever drives down whenever, but like Eme wouldn't mind getting the train (preferably with someone) if it gets too crammed otherwise.

In case of catching the train would it be cheaper to book in advance (like soonish)? Sorry, could probably find this out myself but I'm lazy AND Gaijingirl always appears to just know these things..

This isn't one of those train journeys that are cheaper in advance.. it's really considered a local journey, so we can just buy a return on the day - so in that sense we don't need to worry too much about logistics just yet. I suggest we wait till a week before or so and do another head count and car count, just in case there are any last minute complications with cars or people can't make it for whatever reasons. If we don't all go by car some of us will need to taxi ourselves from the bunkhouse to the PYO (at least), but everything else should be within walking distance.

I'm not sure what time I'll be able to leave Brixton, as I'm going to be working on a Radio 4 programme for a few weeks (hurrah!) and it gets "put to bed" on Fridays. That week will be my first week, so I'll have to play it by ear, I guess. The good thing though is that I won't have to work on the Sunday and therefore leave early....

Cemertyone came over and dropped off a shit load of empty jars.. and I now also have tons as I've been forcing all the housemates to eat twice as quickly as usual and only consume canned pasta sauces etc as opposed to making their own - under pain of eviction! (in the true spirit of a craft club attendee ;) ) - so added to Pieeyes 6 jars we're doing good... :D

9 jars!! :)

(do you think we have enough now??)

Well I don't know... there'll be 10 of us - when there was 6 of us doing the marmalade we didn't buy much fruit really (certainly not as much as we might expect to pick between us!) and we took home four jars each!! I say keep collecting! :D
