Help Connecting to Amazon Prime on virgin tv

Guineveretoo

Mostly bewildered
I am trying to help my elderly father, who lives in Oxfordshire, and wants to watch the rugby this afternoon.

It is only on amazon prime, and he doesn't have an account, but I can sign him up for a free trial, if we can work out how to do this. Not done that so far.

He has a smart tv - linsar 32led625 - and I seem to have the same tv, but can't find the amazon prime app on it.

He also has virgintv, which I don't have, and have never had, and I have no idea how to help him look on virgin tv to see if he can watch it through that, although the internet seems to be saying that he can watch it.

I will add that he is 91, lives alone, and is not at all technically minded.

Looking at the Virgin option first link I find says that it is only available on the V6 box. Do you know what the model of his box is? We can eliminate that one way or the other. (I'm not a Virgin user either, others may know better.).

No. I asked him, but he didn't know, and couldn't find anything on the screen when I got him to turn it on and look at it

Different Linsar TV, I can't find the manual for your one but does the interface look like this?

He has the same smart tv as me, and I have managed to get him in to the "market" bit (I didn't know about that myself, since I don't really use it as a smart tv) but there is no amazon prime app there.

I can see that he could have logged in via an internet browser on the tv, but that is unbelievably clunky and slow and I don't think I could bear to have to talk him through it, even if it worked. I was trying to set it up on my own one, to see if it worked, and gave up because it was so fucking clunky/slow. Hence asking about virgin.

Have you got an Amazon Prime account? You could use that instead of the free trial as it isn't that address specific. Do you have a laptop or tablet with you?

Yeah those browsers are terrible.

The internet seems sure that the prime app is available via this "market" thing on the tv, but it is not on mine or his. Maybe we should both have updated it or something. Hmm. I wonder how to do that...

Looking at my virgin box- I don't habe Prime on there (Just Netflix and iPlayer and about six I've never heard of. No way of adding - I have always accessed prime through my Fire stick.

Saddly I think the only way he'd be able to view it is by a browseer

I don't think Prime will get the Six Nations next year. But if they do then a Firestick and pay for Prime then cancel it after the tournament. I think they were only allowed to get these internationals as the Autumn series has always (right or wrong) been seen as a bit second rate.

Its people like your dad who are the reason its bollocks international sports aren't free to air. I feel really sorry for him. I feel guilty 'm only half watching Scotland Japan now.

He only ever watches rugby or cricket, and used to play rugby when he was younger. It feels sad/frustrating that he can't watch it today

I have found a pub near him which is showing it, but he is not keen to go there and I don't blame him.

Linsar used to bundle a Roku stick with their TVs for this reason. I don't know if there is/was a software limitation or licencing issue meaning they couldn't put the app directly onto their tellies.

I read something online about the roku stick but he doesn't have this.

As a cosulation Ireland Argentina is on 4 tomorrow at 2:15

I've got a spare firestick upstairs I only use occasionally. If this wasn't the last weekend I'd send it to him.

If he had told me about this before now, I might have just bought him one! (although the idea of talking him through installing it is terrifying)

He only wants to watch the England v South Africa match
