Cheap/Free things to do in Manchester this weekend

My ex girlfriend and I are going to be staying in a hotel and discussing if we can work through our obsessive physical compulsion for each other and see if we can turn it into a more meaningful relaitionship. After the initial shagging and discussions at some point we might venture out of the hotel, as its the week before payday neither of us have a great deal of cash, so what would urbanites reccomend in Manchester that weekend?

there are two excellent art exhibitions on - Edward Hopper at the Whitworth where the cafe is lovely and Female Surrealists at the City gallery which I think is £4.00 to get in -

Have an excellent pieminister pie (the best pies ever) with mash and gravy at the Nexus art gallery in the northern quarter for about a fiver
