On Caye Caulker I recommend Ignacios Cabanas. They are purple and you can see them from the water taxi on the way over.

They seem like they might be a bit far from the 'action' but the walk into 'town' along the beach in the morning to score breakfast is beautfil.

Take a left through the graveyard (!) and you're on Front Street.

When you get off the Front Dock turn right on front Street and see a yellow house - Carlos will do you excellent snorkelling tours. Pls give my regards to him and Zizi his daughter.

I feel a bit sick with jealousy :D

You could also hire a bike. Ferrari make them

I'm gonna pm you Reuben of Ignacio's Cabana's email address and post this pic of me off Da Split

5t3IIa - Caye Caulker looks gorgeous!

It is!

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=17.759967,-88.039627&spn=0.099723,0.197067&t=h&z=13

That white line of waves to the right is the reef  The water on the leeward side is less than 10 metres deep - it's like swimming in a high-ceilinged room, iyswim, but it's full of enormous and very friendly fishes, stingrays, nurse sharks and turtles.

The breeze comes off the Caribbean and the 'front' (East) side of the island is coooooool. You can walk 50 metres (in some places) to the West side and it's like walking into a sauna.

God, I'm going to make myself cry with desire in a minute :D:(

Hey NVP - If you get to the Andes, give us a shout - I'm there now.

I'm fucking loving South America.

Heh! I´m staying right next door at Zazil Kin. Got the same view. :) El Mirador´s not open yet - it´s still really early season so the place is nice and quiet. Tulum´s undoubtedly the most beautiful beach I´ve ever seen - the colour of the sea´s unreal. :) ES LA HORA TEQUILA !!! :D

I´ll post some pics in a bit.

Wait til you get to Caye Caulker for the proper swimming-in-bath-water experience  Tuluum was a bit rough for me :(

On Caye Caulker now, Stella. Loved it as soon as I got of the boat. Already paid a month's rent up front and have no intention of going anywhere else for ages. GO SLOW. :)

Han - if/when you come out here I wouldn't be surprised if I'm still here, tbh. :D Belize is fucking great.

Yeah, Tulum looks nice. Good beaches, ruins to explore. Some cheap beach hut type places that look my kind of thing. Sounds nice. :)

tulum's cool, bit bongo at times, but there's a tiny beach about half an hour before it, on the road from cancun down to tulum. it's near to a cafe del mar (in name only, but great breakfasts). Look for the Bonanza camping sign. Cabin $15 a night, gorgeous coral reef 50m offshore.

The owner had seven brothers who sold their beaches to all-inclusive resorts. I asked him why he didn't sell. "I live here, why do I need a million dollars?" he said.

Latin America is ace. Check out the bay islands and cayos cochinos off honduras. Nicaragua also rules, costa rica's pricey and yanked up, guatemala is ace, Panama is fun, but nowhere compares with colombia for me.

PM me when you have a plan, i spent 3 of the last 5 years in central america and colombia and have been to all the countries down from mexico to panama except el salvador.

$50 is a good daily budget, for most of Centam and Latam. You'll have loads of options.

all the best mate.

Pretty much how I feel. (Tho' I also loved El Salvador - black sand beaches, fantastic seafood and friendly locals).

(Burning with jealousy NVP )

Just popped into check me email and discovered we had a hurricane off the coast a few days back. I knew nothing about it and no-one on the island seemed that arsed, either. :D
