Venice on a budget

Venice Antico Doge.jpg

Wanted to go to Venice so decided to book for November which is considerably cheaper than the previous months. Knew there would a chance of Acqua Alta. We arrived on 14 November the day after record flooding. Bought wellies during my lunch break day before leaving to pack into cases. Luckily on the day we arrived there wasn't a high tide. However, the following day we weren't so lucky. This is the view of the hotel we stayed in. The wellies came in handy but if you wanted to go further we would have needed waders! It wasn't flooded the whole time we were there so it wasn't a total wash out. Did get a proposal from my bf so it was very memorable. :)

Im flying there tomorrow. And I'm on a budget :D

It's the anual international film festival and presumably Biennale other stuff too. Hoping to check that out. Ive only booked 3 nights accommodation and I'm staying in Mestre. Everything looks extremely expensive but I'm not that tight that I won't pay for cool experiences, food, trips or whatever. I know it's going to cost me a bit.

Im thinking about going to Lido Di Jesolo and staying near the beach afterwards for another 5 nights. But I'm not sure. Any other cool islands or places neadby? No way am I paying 50 euros a night to stay in a hostel dorm on the main island though! Uffff.

Chioggia, a fishing village across the lagoon, looks like it could be interesting. It's got canals and stuff just like its big neighbour. Most of the locals have the same surname, which is a bit odd in a family-friendly kind of way.
