In Catford ? Are you mad? ……….. Many moons I used to go to the Catford Ram inside the shopping arcade but couldn’t say what it is like now. My local wine bar – Masons – next to Ladywell Station is fine – nice ambience and you can drink anytime of the day I think. The food is very good but over-priced for the area = West End Food at West End prices!
**** often drinks at the Fox and Firkin in Rushey Green. That's ok but can be noisy. I have also drunk at the Coach and Horses near Lewisham hospital and there is another pub called Hotshots just opposite.
If you travel a bit further there is a nice pub on Burnt Ash Lane. Just go up Brownhill Road from Catford and turn right onto Burnt Ash Lane. Can't remember the name but it is a Youngs pub quite a bit up the road on the left with a big car park.
Maggot said:There's a good pub towards Lewisham (by Lewisham Hospital) which has a fine selection of ales.
When I remember what it's called I'll let you know.
Andy the Don said:The Jordans, one of only two pubs in the area I would drink in, the other being the Dacre Arms off Lee High Road.
Dylan's (formely The Joiners Arms) just down the road from the Wetherspoons can also good for that sort of thing!lizzieloo said:OK beer and loads of mad folk to watch, it's like telly
lizzieloo said:I was going to say that one, I used to go there with my Brother in Law when it was a Hobgoblin, thing is, it was pricey, had no soul and was always full of the don't talk to folk you don't know brigade.
Pretty shite IMO
what more proof does one need of the enduring crapness of catford, if you have to go all the way to catford for a pint?Hollis said:Yes Jezza I know..

acid priest said:I'm sad to say that I find Catford and Lewisham to be utterly depressing shitholes devoid of any culture or variety to speak of. When the best pub in the centre of a town with a population of 300,000 (Lewisham) is a Wetherspoons, it speaks volumes. Similarly, about the best pub in Catford I've been to is probably The Goose On The Green, which again is a chain. Why can't they do something about that whole area?

acid priest said:Absolutely - it's only a mile or so off to the side of Lewisham, with at least two decent public houses on the heath (the Princess Of Wales and the Hare And Billet) plus a cluster of okay ones in the village.
Yeah, that's not bad actually - I went there for my sister's birthday three years ago.Derian said:The Crown's not bad either - at least compared to anything in Catford. Plus there's a Zero Degrees micro brewery in the village:

The Railway is quite good too, although it seems to change hands every other week these days and gets unbelievably wadged at weekends. Blackheath would indeed be perfect for a pub crawl, being small and intensely concentrated with regard to pubs etc.
I'm surprised there aren't many late licence bars/clubs though - about the only one I can think of is a small place underneath Cafe Austin that I went to ages ago. I'm not sure if it's still there or not though...
