Captain Sir Tom Moore RiP

I have a drinking game for anyone who does not have to do anything in the morning

spend the evening watching the news channels taking a drink every time someone mentioned the word Blitz spirit

we call you an ambulance in advance for the stomach pump
twice as many dead from the covid as died in all the air raids and all the v1 & v2 attacks on the uk from 1939 to 1945

What has defunding the NHS is the first place go to do with it? He didn't die of NHS failure. His actions were to help NHS support groups which have always existed. You're making a story out of his actions as much as the tories are going to - and you make them actions about those tawdry things. I like him but...

Fucking hell, can't even recognise good motives anymore - so cynical and worn down. Can't recognise the people that work to make life better

Not said a word against the man here or anywhere. But if I had you can rest assured your excoriation would have cut me to the bone.

He was admitted to hospital with pneumonia, which apparently counter indicates the vaccine.

Well done on the fund raising, old fella. Hope you went peacefully.
Also, like many others, the Covid looks like a case of hospital acquired following his admission for pneumonia.
Unfortunately atm, an unvaccinated trip to hospital for oldies is pretty risky :(

No that involves a misunderstanding of the detail, and possibly also because some people are treating the pneumonia as if it was its own distinct thing, as opposed to the strong possibility that it was a symptom of Covid-19 in this case.

Not that I can entirely exclude the possibility that he had non-Covid-related pneumonia and then picked up Covid later, but there is nothing in particular that gives me cause to lean towards that possibility. And if he did pick up Covid-19 it wasnt in hospital because he was only admitted quite recently.

Something broke when Diana Spencer was killed, and public death is political capital.

Some (very) old bloke who, I guess, none us knew performed an honourable gesture - for which, whatever else, he should be respected and commended.

Whilst noting that we should, and are noting how that action (and symbol of 'Capt Tom') was taken and abused by the very people who created the conditions in which his actions became necessary. They will be loud voices over the coming days.

I also note, in passing, the BBC headline "died with Covid". Every minute of coverage is going to be weaponised.

He's just an old bloke who did something good for others. That's what we need to remember him for. Thanks and RIP Tom.

He had caught Covid before being admitted to hospital, while living with his family, from what I could make out.

Anyway, I think it's a shame that his decent hearted efforts to do good were appropriated and used by the very state that made those efforts necessary and that the negligence of that same state was responsible for his death many months after his original efforts to help. And I think it's a shame that his death will be used by the state to yet again cover for their own murderous failings by hanging a union flag on them to cover them up.

No real issue with the man himself
