Canterbury Arms Hotel????

Stumbled upon this tonight...

Anyone know any more about this?
I think it's just the planning document for the demolition of the old pub which they're calling a hotel.

The applicant proposes: Variation of Condition 3 (schedule of materials) and 4 (drawings) of planning permission 15/07141/FUL (Demolition of the existing public house and redevelopment to provide a mixed use development comprising 37 residential dwellings (Use Class C3), 123 sqm of flexible commercial use (A1/A2/A3/B1/D1) in a nine storey building including the provision of a communal garden and 63 cycle parking spaces) granted 29.11.2016.Original condition states:The conditions stated in 3 and 4 to be carried out prior to any development work.Amendment sought: To replace the word No 'development' in both conditions 3 and 4 with No 'superstructure'.

Criminally, the site is still empty.

Its irrelevant from "our" point of view. Had the Canterbury Arms been in the conservation area - which it was not (by design) - then they could not have demolished without starting work on the approved scheme.

As it is they are apparently having belt and braces that they can have any old Pop Brixton extension for as long as they like without approval of the Mayor's Office.

I can;'t really see how Sadiq Khan's Mayoralty is any different from Boris Johnsons' in respect of such matters BTW.

From Lambeth's website here is current thinking.

Pity they knocked down the pub meanwhile, becasue it sounds like Lambeth are now seeking to re-create a Blackpool-style entertainment quarter, with added trees and cycle racks. It would have been even better with a Victorian pub with listable interior.Growing Brixton's Rec Quarter - 49 Brixton Station Road & 6 Canterbury Crescent
