Canada - 4g?

SushiMo

I'm always right.
Am off to tour Canada next month, and am going with the new ipad + 4g. Worked out it was way cheaper than paying £10-12 per day for tomtom navigation - to pay extra for 4g and download the Canada tomtom for £30+. I will need to buy a sim card in Toronto Airport on landing though, just need one for a month initially. Anyone have any advice on what to look out for? When I approached Orange to ask them they just told me to forget it as the UK ipad won't work at all in Canada!!! I do so hope she was well out of order there btw!

Any help or advice gratefully received, thanks.

I'm in Canada. I see no reason why your tomtom shouldn't work. A quick google shows it compatible. The only think I can problem see is that not all of Canada is 4G.

As for your ipad - the only problem I can see would be the different electricity levels for recharging.

Where are you traveling to?

I never bought the ipad from Orange, I do have a mobile phone contract with them - so just asked about the ipad while enquiring what mortgage I would need to use the mob over there!
(I won't be using that at all btw, just the ipad, so long as there is no issue on getting 4g sim card into it.

I will be starting in Toronto, then on to Calgary and then anywhere I choose between there to Vancouver before going on to Victoria - about a month all told. I should be able to charge the ipad from a netbook, I know that will be OK as have done that before.

I suggest that you contact one of the Canadian providers (Bell, Virgin, Rogers) and ask them. They would be your best information source and all are pretty good at answering emails if the information is not on their site.

I hope you enjoy your trip and that the weather improves. It snowed here today (3 hours from Toronto).

Thanks for that, I'll check them out.
As for the weather, well, at least I know (hope) there will be no ice storms going on? I know it will be a tad cool, but am not going for the sun, more for the views, love Canada to bits!
