Brixton-like places in south London??!

Had this conversation with el-ahrairah in summer as he was preparing to move out of Brixton and I was complaining about the price explosion and gentrification of West Norwood, of all places and the affects this will have on the areas slightly further south before long (South Norwood, Penge).
"There'll always be Lewisham", we joked. Cue me being on a walk in Lewisham with the lovely boohoo yesterday and our collective jaws dropping at the amount of boutique cafes and artisan cheese shops.
Ironically, my next move that I'm in the middle of right now sees me moving from West Norwood to East Dulwich cos I found the best value for money room there!

Yeh dulwich isn't as steep in comparison these days! Still more but not so much... I found a place I liked in Streatham but didn't get it as they wanted 6months rent upfront!!! And then they tried to keep £50 of my deposit so I threatened them with lawyers and got it back. Hate estate agents. :(

Nowhere now is like Brixton was 30 years ago with its mixture of cheap housing, squats, short life property, places to go, things to to do and good transport links. In terms of cheaper areas nearby now I reckon Sydenham is the most like it but really it's not all that. Other places have their own character and it's just a question of what you like and what you can afford.
