Bill and Melinda Gates announce one of the biggest charitable donations in history

He did, when this was first posted on urban75 his pdf was free to download. There's now a charge which goes to promotion of the product, which seems reasonable. The product is sold dirt cheaply. And you get instructions on how to make it yourself.

This is wonderful news! What steps is the inventor taking to ensure this miracle product is as widely available as possible to those in the developing world who so obviously need it?

Or do they also have to pony up for a book (assuming they're literate) or a DVD (assuming they have access to a computer)?

What, you mean besides visiting the countries himself, training doctors there, and making the instructions on how to prepare and use it public information both on the internet and wherever he goes? I don't know.

So then why doe he have to bother with them then?

You are stitching yourself up in your own bollocks.
It's very simple. Clinical trials are the highest standard of proof for a remedy. So although extremely expensive, they are very desirable.

However, a remedy will not work because it passes a clinical trial. It will pass the clinical trial because it works. Do you understand?

Why not? As ymu is always keen to point out, most procedures adopted by the NHS have not undergone clinical trials.
Do you believe his 'miracle' cure is the answer to AIDS, hepatitis A,B and C, malaria, herpes, TB and most cancers as he claims? A simple YES/NO answer will suffice.

However, a remedy will not work because it passes a clinical trial. It will pass the clinical trial because it works. Do you understand?

Yes, but you said he needed the money for it to pass the clinical trial and then said it did not have to pass the clinical trial to be used. Only that it is 'desirable' to pass the clinical trial. Do YOU understand.

Splendid. What percentage of people previously stricken with malaria, AIDS and the three biggie heps are now completely disease-free?

Let's get real now: if this stuff did what it's supposed to have, somebody, somewhere would have taken notice. Why is all the info available about this miracle cure on Youtube and dodgy internet backwaters? Why not in The Lancet?

Oh wait... it's all about Big Pharma keeping people with serious diseases on the hook and bilking them out of millions. Right... :hmm:

I've read some truly ridiculous things on here but this really is idiocy of the second highest order. The only way it could be worse is if he was trying to sell this toss to actual AIDS patients - but lacking the nouse to do so, he's just repeating some other chump's fact free fantasy. You should be ashamed.

If only your turned your obsession with following money back where it belongs, to big pharma.

Which funnily enough, is where the trail ends up when you start looking at the ownership of most of the big 'alternative medcine' companies too.

Impressive stuff.

Shame his foundation also invests in some of the worst corporations on the planet then isn't it? Eni, Royal Dutch Shell, Exxon Mobil Corp., Chevron Corp Total.

Dark cloud over good works of Gates Foundation

Ebocha, Nigeria — JUSTICE Eta, 14 months old, held out his tiny thumb.

An ink spot certified that he had been immunized against polio and measles, thanks to a vaccination drive supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
But polio is not the only threat Justice faces. Almost since birth, he has had respiratory trouble. His neighbors call it "the cough." People blame fumes and soot spewing from flames that tower 300 feet into the air over a nearby oil plant. It is owned by the Italian petroleum giant Eni, whose investors include the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Justice squirmed in his mother's arms. His face was beaded with sweat caused either by illness or by heat from the flames that illuminate Ebocha day and night. Ebocha means "city of lights."

The makeshift clinic at a church where Justice Eta was vaccinated and the flares spewing over Ebocha represent a head-on conflict for the Gates Foundation. In a contradiction between its grants and its endowment holdings, a Times investigation has found, the foundation reaps vast financial gains every year from investments that contravene its good works.

In Ebocha, where Justice lives, Dr. Elekwachi Okey, a local physician, says hundreds of flares at oil plants in the Niger Delta have caused an epidemic of bronchitis in adults, and asthma and blurred vision in children. No definitive studies have documented the health effects, but many of the 250 toxic chemicals in the fumes and soot have long been linked to respiratory disease and cancer.

"We're all smokers here," Okey said, "but not with cigarettes."

The oil plants in the region surrounding Ebocha find it cheaper to burn nearly 1 billion cubic feet of gas each day and contribute to global warming than to sell it. They deny the flaring causes sickness. Under pressure from activists, however, Nigeria's high court set a deadline to end flaring by May 2007. The gases would be injected back underground, or trucked and piped out for sale. But authorities expect the flares to burn for years beyond the deadline.

The Gates Foundation has poured $218 million into polio and measles immunization and research worldwide, including in the Niger Delta. At the same time that the foundation is funding inoculations to protect health, The Times found, it has invested $423 million in Eni, Royal Dutch Shell, Exxon Mobil Corp., Chevron Corp. and Total of France -- the companies responsible for most of the flares blanketing the delta with pollution, beyond anything permitted in the United States or Europe.

Trials of the HIV drug Tenofovir scrapped in Cambodia and Cameroon after objections by sex workers to the unethical nature of the trials.

CAMBODIA: Sex workers fight proposed Tenofovir HIV drug trial

http://www.greenleft.org.au/2005/620/35128

the Gates Foundation is being used as a cover for big pharmaceutical companies to use poor women as guinea pigs in drugs trials that would never be allowed in this country. Trials that will make big profits for pharmaceutical corporation Gilead Sciences.

Viread (Tenofivir) has been extremely important for Gilead, converting if from a loss-making company into a profitable one.

Any guesses who are funding the trials? Yes, the Gates Foundation.

sex workers objected to the unethical nature of the research and the refusal to include long term medical treatment for any potential side effects.
Phnom Penh sex workers, organised in the Women’s Network for Unity (WNU), strongly objected to what they call unethical aspects of the proposed trial, including insufficient guarantees of long-term medical care for trial participants who might develop side effects. Reported side effects in HIV-positive people using tenofovir include damage to the liver, kidneys and pancreas, and loss of bone minerals, which may lead to osteoporosis. There have been no tests of what side effects might occur in HIV-negative people.

And when the likes of Gilead have finished testing the new drugs on the poorest people in the world. What do the participants get?

Were the participants in Cambodia offered medical insurance by the Gates foundation? No

Were they offered lifelong medical care for potential side effects? NO. They were offered insurance for 2 years.

Were they offered free Tenofovir if it proved successful? NO. They were offered $3.00 per month to buy aspirins.

Were they offered free anti retrovirals if Tenofivir is unsuccessful? No

Gilead take their new medicine, abandon Cambodia and SELL IT BACK TO THEM for profit.

You muppets. Bill Gates isnt the new messiah. He's a front for the fucking drug companies to make a packet.

and you don't need to be a conspiriloon like Jazz to see that

This is what Cambodian sex workers had to say about Bill Gates

I applaud Bill Gates for spending so much of his own money and from my understanding this wont be the last massively silly donation he makes during or shortly after his life.

You do however have to wonder how the fuck can someone afford to give so much away in the first place, that is an insane amount of money especially when you consider how big a debt the US government is in, he needs taxing the absolute shite out of!!!!

Because it convinces you you are handing over cash for a stable operating system :D

Gates operated with in a system, played it very well. Accumulated a great deal of wealthy and so far as I know did not physicaly harm anyone. Other than some of his software products being used for weapons systems (much to the horror of the IT comunity who would ironicaly prefer the less capitalist systems like variants of Unix as they are more stable) there are people living on my street who have inflicted more human harm than he has.

From a utilitarian perspective he has fucked over a few other capitalist software companies and has spend huge amounts of wealth on improving the lot of the worst of in the world; Id say he is coming out well ahead.

You can complain about the system he has exploited so expertly but I am swallowing 20 years of IT geek tribalism and saying well done that man.

Compared with almost every other mega-rich tycoon, he's not so bad.

He's not employing sweated labour like, say, big-brand clothes companies.

He's not exploiting the natural resources of poor countries.

He didn't cut down rainforests to plant fields of Windows Vista trees (AFAIK).

No-one ever HAD to buy what he was selling.

By definition, anyone who had cause to buy what he was selling, was, on a global scale, pretty well off (they could afford their own computer!).

This is Bill Gates' version of charity:

http://www.consumerloanwire.com/new...e-access-to-savings-and-loans-in-rural-africa

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and The MasterCard Foundation are founding a $16 million program through Opportunity International to provide access to savings accounts and agricultural loans in rural sub-Saharan Africa.

“Opportunity International is grateful to the MasterCard Foundation and the Bill & Melinda Gate Foundation for their support which will help developing agriculturally-based communities transition to thriving and diversified economies,” Kadita Tshibaka, CEO of Opportunity International said.
...
Opportunity International will use the grant to provide 1.4 million people with access to financial services. Opportunity will serve agricultural and non-agricultural borrowers using a wide range of services that include satellite branches, kiosks, mobile vans, ATM’s and point-of-sale devices. The program will begin in Malawi and Ghana to expand to more countries over the next five years.

Development funds that will be swallowed up in the further financialisation of Ghana and Malawi - tying farmers further into dependency, which will benefit the people of private bodies like Opportunity International.

By any reckoning, Bill Gates is an anti-human figure.

Why do you think that they don't want or need access to the same services that we've enjoyed for years, then? How does an ATM or a savings account tie a farmer into 'dependency'?

Oh, and as for "anti-human," have you any idea how ridiculous you sound?

You're the ridiculous one. It's the 'loan' bit that matters. He is 'donating' them access to more debt (which they are too poor to acquire otherwise). They need less debt, not more of it.

The devil dresses like the angel.

So you believe him to be "anti human" too - perhaps like one of the lizard people your lunatic pal David Icke is always gibbering on about?
